Job description

At Thorn, our cause is our code. We are a nonprofit whose mission of defending children from sexual exploitation and abuse is deeply embedded within our core—a shared code that drives us to do challenging work with resilience and determination.

Here, you’ll work and grow among the best hearts and the best minds in tech, data, and business alongside our network of independent partners, NGOs, and law enforcement agencies. Together, we’re focused on building technology that protects children’s futures. We are looking for dynamic problem solvers with the desire to help address some of today’s toughest issues. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of peers in a remote environment centered on wellness, care, and compassion.

In 2019, we took the stage atTED and shared our audacious goal of eliminating child sexual abuse material from the internet. Come join us to help make this goal a reality and build a world where every child can be safe, curious, and happy.

About the Role

The Senior UX Manager serves as the user experience expert and works alongside our product teams to create and deliver innovative technology solutions with a sharp focus on user experience across products and interactions. Part strategist and part designer, in this role, you solve complex problems with creativity, and collaborate rigorously with our business and technical stakeholders to drive end-to-end engaging and cohesive user experiences. You might be outlining user workflows one day, hosting a co-design workshop the next, and wrapping up the week building scrappy digital prototypes to test - all while partnering with users around the world. You embody design principles in everything you produce and are attuned to the evolving UX landscape, with a natural systems-level view of how people engage with technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead user experience strategy and execution across multiple market segments for UI and API based products while considering the broader customer experience.
  • Lead user research strategies to uncover needs and test concepts, using findings to influence both product vision and iteration.
  • Formulate future state strategies to envision and plan for long-term user experience goals with the ability to create journey maps, and service blueprints to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Shape and scale product experiences to meet the diverse needs of multiple audiences, influencing product direction.
  • Drive competitive analysis to proactively evolve Thorn’s user experience strategy in alignment with market and customer insights.
  • Lead the development of personas, user flows and scenarios, goal/task analyses, and other key tools of user-centered design.
  • Communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  • Continuously improve UX strategies and guiding principles/frameworks, ensuring consistency and quality in all deliverables.
  • Translate insights into clear, scalable design solutions—creating wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that bring complex workflows to life.
  • Relentlessly simplify and distill complex processes into intuitive and elegant user interfaces while maintaining detailed user-interface specifications.
  • Use data to drive continuous improvement, tracking success through satisfaction metrics, usability data, and conversion insights.

What We’re Looking For

  • Passion, humility, positive attitude, mission-driven, relationship builder, customer savvy, and self-directed with commitment to putting the children we serve at the center of everything you do.
  • 8+ years of experience scaling cohesive user experience across complex products and portfolios.
  • A problem solver who is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and humble; can deliver beautifully designed, leading-edge experiences under tight deadlines, with demonstrated proven expertise.
  • A portfolio which highlights strong understanding of UX design including but not limited to: user flows and translating customer research, analytics, and insights into wireframes and high-fidelity designs.
  • Experience collaborating with product managers, engineers, researchers, and marketers.
  • You see beyond individual screens—understanding how design shapes the broader experience, even when your scope is focused on the user interface.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with a proven ability to align cross-functional teams around complex UX strategies and decisions.
  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Experienced in Agile, lean, and systems thinking, with a track record of applying these approaches to drive impactful UX outcomes.
  • Communicates clearly and persuasively across teams and levels, simplifying ambiguity and driving alignment in a remote, distributed environment.
  • An AI enthusiast who is comfortable using the technology for continuous operational improvement
