We are seeking a highly experienced and versatile Staff AI Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this critical role, you will design, develop, and deploy AI applications incorporating sophisticated AI agents capable of complex reasoning, planning, and autonomous action. You will build intuitive user interfaces for interacting with these agents, develop robust backend APIs and systems to power them, and architect scalable solutions across the entire stack. You will tackle ambiguous problems, provide technical leadership across front-end, back-end, and AI components, mentor other engineers, and help shape the technical direction for our agentic AI initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to apply your full-stack expertise to the forefront of AI development.

Travel for team and client meetings is required, typically up to 15%.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage AI-based data pipelines, including data curation, generation, and labeling for training and adapting AI models.
  • Work with foundation models and unstructured data, performing tasks such as data deduplication, tokenization, context retrieval, and quality control.
  • Optimize AI model inference for speed and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of AI applications, mitigating risks and identifying opportunities for performance enhancements.
  • Evaluate AI models, particularly open-ended, non-deterministic models, ensuring appropriate tone and content.
  • Apply prompt engineering techniques to guide AI models through input, without adjusting model weights.
  • Construct effective context for AI models to perform tasks, enhancing model performance.
  • Develop AI-powered interfaces such as browser extensions, chatbots, plugins/addons, web/desktop/mobile applications, voice assistants, and embedded AR/VR interfaces.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in data engineering, including data curation, generation, and labeling.
  • Familiarity with foundation models and handling unstructured data.
  • Understanding of data preprocessing techniques like deduplication, tokenization, context retrieval, and quality control.
  • Proven ability to optimize model inference for speed and cost-effectiveness.
  • Experience in evaluating AI applications, identifying risks, and uncovering opportunities for enhancement.
  • Skill in evaluating open-ended, non-deterministic AI models and ensuring appropriate tone and content.
  • Proficiency in prompt engineering and context construction for guiding AI model behavior.
  • Experience developing AI-powered interfaces such as browser extensions, chatbots, and web applications.
  • Knowledge of various AI-related technologies and tools.

Colorado Applicants (Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act Disclosure):  The starting salary range for this role to be performed in Colorado is estimated to be between $145,000 to $175,000 annually.  This salary range is specific to Colorado residents only, and provided as a general estimate.  The amount offered may be higher or lower. Method  takes many factors into making an offer, including candidate qualifications, work experience, operational needs, travel and onsite requirements, internal peer equity, prevailing wage, responsibilities, and other market and business considerations.

New York City Applicants (New York City Local Law 32;  Pay Transparency Law):  The starting salary range for this role to be performed in New York City is from $160,000 to $190,000 . This salary range is specific to New York City residents only, and provided as a general, good faith estimate. The amount offered may be higher or lower. Method takes many factors into making an offer, including candidate qualifications, work experience, operational needs, travel and onsite requirements, internal peer equity, prevailing wage, responsibilities, and other market and business considerations.
