Job description
VP of Growth and Strategy (remote)
At RefinedScience, our mission is to advance care by bringing together the best science, data and minds – disease by disease, patient by patient, cell by cell to discover pathways to life beyond disease.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We seek a highly skilled leader who will oversee the identification and in-licensing of high-potential, failed, or abandoned clinical-stage assets, initially focusing on blood cancers and expanding into other conditions. The role involves developing and executing strategic roadmaps, leading business development and licensing activities, and cultivating partnerships to maximize asset value and create new revenue streams, such as companion diagnostics and validation services. They will also play a pivotal role in securing funding, mentoring teams, and representing Refined Science within the industry, positioning the company as a leader in AI-driven drug development.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Develop and refine a strategic roadmap for asset identification and development, starting with blood cancers and expanding into other areas, while maintaining the agility to pursue opportunistic deals as they arise.
- Leverage AI and market insights to prioritize target indications and assets for in-licensing, ensuring alignment with company capabilities and market needs.
- Identify and develop strategies for additional service lines (or spinouts), including precision diagnostics and validation services for investors and pharma partners.
- Support all efforts to raise additional funds to support the company, including eventual dilutive (venture capital, pharma development deals) and non-dilutive funding opportunities (grants, philanthropy) to support company growth and innovation.
- Lead and mentor a team responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and executing in-licensing and out-licensing deals.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of failed or abandoned Phase I/II assets suitable for in-licensing and development, leveraging industry networks and data-driven insights.
- Structure and negotiate complex partnership, licensing, and collaboration agreements with biopharma, academic, and investor partners.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders—including pharma, biotech, academic institutions, and investors—to identify new business opportunities and enhance Refined Science’s reputation as a partner of choice.
- Track and report on progress toward strategic and revenue goals, providing regular updates to the President and Board.
MUST HAVES
- Advanced degree in life sciences, business, or related field (MBA, PhD, MD, or equivalent preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in strategy, business development, or corporate development within biopharma, diagnostics, or healthcare technology, with a track record of successful negotiation of complex deals.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels, including Board and external partners.
- Willingness to travel to RefinedScience location (Denver, CO) and travel up to 25%).
NICE TO HAVES
- Comprehensive knowledge of drug development processes, focusing on translational and early clinical development (Phase I/II).
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
