3D Operations R&D Specialist Chief Architect CAD

Job description

Canvas is at the forefront of revolutionizing the remodeling, architecture and interior design industry through cutting-edge AI and computer vision technology. With our LiDAR-enabled iPhone or iPad scans, we capture precise 3D representations of homes in minutes, providing interactive models with accurate-to-the-inch measurements. Our proprietary process then turns these scans into highly detailed, editable, as-built files in industry-standard formats. Our technology was featured in Apple’s keynote when the iPhone’s LiDAR sensor was introduced and now we model millions of square feet each month.

We’re an early-stage startup that is growing and ready to accelerate even further. As a global virtual-first company, our team members are distributed worldwide, with a concentration in the US and Europe.

We’re seeking a 3D Operations Research and Development Specialist, with a focus on Chief Architect, to join our team and play a key role in making the “magic” happen for customers of Canvas. Every day, our customers scan homes and upload those scans to our Scan To CAD service, which processes that data into CAD files, 2D drawings, and BIM models in various formats. Our customers frequently refer to Canvas as their “easy button for as-builts,” and you will be responsible for driving testing, process optimizations, and bringing innovative solutions to our operational pipeline.

If you are a proactive, organized individual with a passion for 3D modeling and a desire to make a difference in the world of 3D scanning, architecture, and design, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity to join our team. At Canvas, we value diversity and are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive work environment. We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome candidates of all backgrounds to apply.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the testing and analysis of new technologies and methodologies to enhance our modeling processes.
  • Develop test plans and deliver reports on research findings and project progress to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies for process improvement and optimization in the production of 3D CAD models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate innovative solutions into the existing operational pipeline.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in 3D modeling and LiDAR technology.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Architect (or similar) specializing in Chief Architect
  • Subject matter expertise with 3D architectural software, specifically Chief Architect, and associated reconstruction processes, tools, and workflows.
  • Understanding of 3D reconstruction leveraging point clouds or textured mesh.
  • Understanding of current industry plugins and best practices for 3D reconstruction using Chief Architect.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (upper-intermediate level or higher)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to manage multiple competing workflows / priorities
  • Strong familiarity with the Google suite of tools (e.g. Gdocs, Gsheets, etc)

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience with other 3D modeling programs (e.g. Revit, Sketchup, and/or Archicad)
  • Experience with software development or software acceptance testing
  • Experience with 3D data models (e.g. .IFC, .RDF, JSON)
  • Experience in leading 3D modeling or architectural teams
  • Basic knowledge of Jira and Confluence
  • Advanced English language proficiency
