Job Description:
The Assistant Professor of Education and Special Education is a tenure-track member of the School of Education. The faculty member will teach primarily graduate courses to cohorts of students on campus and online. The Professor must display a commitment to educating diverse groups of graduate students. The Professor must demonstrate knowledge of current research in the field of education including assessment and evaluation, collaboration with professionals and diverse families/communities, inclusive practices, effective teaching methods and interventions including positive behavioral approaches. The faculty member demonstrates knowledge of federal, New York State, and local education statutes and policies. Strong collaboration skills and professionalism are essential as this position requires frequent and ongoing communication with full-time and part-time faculty, staff, partner representatives, and graduate students.
Responsibilities:
Teach 7 courses per 10-month period in the subject areas of expertise utilizing effective teaching practices tailored to graduate students
Teach primarily graduate level coursework online and in-person- must have Saturday and evening teaching availability
Foster an engaging, inclusive and high-standard learning environment
Maintain an on-campus presence
Provide advisement to cohorts of students in partnership programs
Attend and contribute to regular meetings of the faculty and staff in the School of Education
Attend monthly meetings of the general faculty
Contribute to the AAQEP and Middle States accreditation processes by submitting and analyzing assessment information leading to continuous improvement of programs
Pursue continued and extended scholarship in area of expertise
Contribute to the mission of the university and the School of Education
Serve the School of Education and university through faculty committees and contributions to institutional initiatives.
Course coordination of select course as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Doctoral degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or Childhood Education (ABD candidates will be considered if the doctoral degree is near completion)
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in PreK–12 settings
Knowledge of and experience with higher education instruction delivered through online and hybrid modalities, or experience in staff development
Knowledge of federal, New York State, and local education statutes and policies
Knowledge of current research and evidence-based practices
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with on-campus and off-campus faculty and staff
Strong preference will be given to individuals who have:
- Dual certification in Childhood, Early Childhood, and/or Special Education
- Experience teaching across a wide range of grade levels (Early Childhood, Childhood, Adolescent, etc.)
- Teaching experience with both K–12 students and adult learners
- Experience using instructional technology for graduate-level instruction
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse learners
The allotted annual salary for this position is $76,000
