About the program
Each’s Youth Mental Health Services support young people (aged 16-25) who are experiencing complex mental health needs, providing access, early assessment, coordinated support and pathways to recovery. The Intake & Assessment function plays a vital role in ensuring young people receive timely, safe and tailored support during critical moments in their recovery journey.
Your role, your impact
You’ll be part of a service that opens doors for young people navigating mental health challenges — creating safe first connections, guiding thoughtful assessments, and ensuring every young person is met with dignity, care, and clarity. In this role, your ability to coordinate, triage and advocate will directly influence a young person’s access to life‑changing support.
You will:
- Guide young people through initial contact, needs identification, and specialist mental health screening
- Assess and prioritise nominations for Youth Residential Recovery and Youth Outreach Recovery Support programs within required timeframes
- Facilitate Regional Selection Panels, ensuring transparent and consistent decision‑making
- Coordinate and triage incoming referrals across phone, email and fax
- Strengthen relationships with referrers, providers, and internal intake teams
- Support the YORS waitlist by providing bridging assistance when needed
- Record and report service data with accuracy to meet departmental and internal requirements
- Contribute to service improvements, program delivery and collaborative problem‑solving
Who we’re looking for
You’re someone who builds trust quickly, communicates with warmth, and can make complex decisions with clarity and care. You’re organised, proactive, and confident in screening and triaging mental health concerns, especially in young people.
You have:
- A degree or relevant tertiary qualification (with experience) in Health, Community Services, Mental Health, Disability, Psychology or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge and experience supporting young people with mental health needs
- Experience with screening, assessment and/or referral management in mental health
- Ability to assess risk, prioritise referrals and make informed recommendations
- Strong relationship‑building and advocacy strengths
- Understanding of recovery‑oriented practice and harm‑minimisation approaches
- Knowledge of mental health legislation, privacy, and relevant referral pathways
What will make you stand out
- Experience working in youth‑focused mental health services
- Experience in presenting, prioritising or triaging clinical referrals
- Familiarity with residential recovery or youth outreach programs
- Skills in data reporting or outcome measurement
