Job Description
Own The Numbers & Build The Finance Function. $4,000-$5,000 per month | Full-time | 4 hours overlap with U.S. East Coast
QBench is the #1 Highest Rated LIMS on G2 in North America. We build software that helps laboratories work faster and smarter, and we’re growing quickly.
As we scale, our finance function needs to keep pace. We’re looking for someone who can come in, take ownership, and turn our financial reporting into something the whole company can rely on without a second thought. This isn’t a “maintain what’s here” hire. It’s a “centralize what exists, build what doesn’t, and make it all run smoothly” hire.
We’re a vertical SaaS company serving increasingly sophisticated customers, which means clean, accurate, on-time financials are the foundation. Investor confidence, strategic decisions, compliance expectations - it all flows through this role.
If you’re the type who sees a messy spreadsheet and physically cannot leave it alone, who builds processes before anyone asks because you know the company is going to need them next quarter - we’d love to have you aboard!
We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Financial Controller who thrives in a remote-first environment and takes pride in building scalable, well-documented, and audit-ready financial systems.
You will own our financial reporting, month-end close, and revenue recognition processes while partnering with leadership to provide strategic insights.
In this role, you will be in charge of:
✅ Month-end and year-end reporting. You run the close, you own the output, and you’re always looking for ways to tighten the timeline.
✅ Commission calculations and pay outs. Making sure everything is accurate, on time, and running without friction.
✅ Managing individual contributors on the finance team. You set the bar, give feedback, and genuinely invest in developing the people around you.
✅ Building new management reporting for vertical SaaS metrics - ARR, MRR, churn, NRR, the works. Leadership shouldn’t have to ask for these numbers - they should have them.
✅ GAAP compliance, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and making sure everything is audit-ready before the auditors even show up.
✅ Evaluating and improving our finance systems and processes. If something is manual and fragile, you fix it. If a process doesn’t exist yet, you build it and document it so it scales.
Working Hours : This is a full time role, with 4 hours core overlap with US East Coast, on most days.
To excel in this role, you need:
✅ 5 - 7 plus years of experience as a Financial controller.
✅ A CPA or Chartered Accountant designation
✅ Experience working for a US based Business.
✅ SaaS Industry Experience
✅ Proven Management Skills
✅ Prior experience working as a controller - you’ve done this before and you’re ready to do it again in a high-growth environment
✅ Strong knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 606 and ASC 842
✅ Experience with B2B SaaS accounting, subscription revenue, and deferred revenue
✅ Ability to manage a month-end close from start to finish
✅ Experience managing and developing direct reports
✅ Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
✅ Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or similar)
✅ Comfortable operating independently in a remote, async-first company
✅ Excellent written communication and documentation skills
✅ The ability to move quickly, make decisions with confidence, and stay comfortable when things aren’t perfectly defined yet
Brownie points for:
⭐ Vertical SaaS experience - this is highly desired and will put you at the front of the line
⭐ Experience building a finance function from the ground up at a growth-stage company
⭐ Familiarity with SaaS billing systems like Stripe, Chargebee, or similar
⭐ Experience preparing board packages and investor materials
⭐ Background supporting SOC 2 or similar compliance frameworks
The ideal candidate?
You’re someone who moves with purpose and makes decisions with confidence. When you spot a problem, your instinct is to solve it - and then build the process around the fix so it doesn’t come back. You’re creative enough to build something from scratch and rigorous enough to make sure it holds up under scrutiny.
You don’t need someone checking in on you constantly. You take ownership of your work, communicate openly, and hold yourself to a high standard - not because someone’s watching, but because that’s just how you operate.
You bring deep technical accounting knowledge, but you also know how to zoom out and help leadership understand what the numbers mean for the business.
You’re someone people enjoy working with, and you make the team around you better.
