Job description

We’re looking for a talented Associate Actuary who is eager to revolutionize car insurance. This is a critical role within our Lemonade Car team, where you’ll be managing rate levels, building advanced pricing tools, and bringing actuarial discipline to all facets of our rapidly growing car insurance product. You’ll leverage competitive data and data science to optimize our customers’ experience, ensuring fairness and accuracy in pricing as we continue to expand and innovate in the insurtech space.

This position is key to advancing our pricing leadership and supporting strategic growth opportunities within Lemonade Car.

In this role you’ll

  • Become an owner and expert on our car insurance product, deeply understanding its mechanics and market position

  • Craft rate filing support for new machine learning models, translating complex data science into regulatory-compliant documentation. Success in this area means seamless approval of innovative pricing structures

  • Identify areas for pricing and underwriting action based on ongoing monitoring of results, proactively addressing trends and opportunities to optimize profitability and customer value

  • Build a comprehensive knowledge base of competitor rating strategies and the overall competitive landscape, providing crucial insights for strategic decision-making

  • Develop proprietary rating models to advance our pricing leadership, utilizing tools like R, Python, and SQL to create sophisticated and accurate risk assessments

  • Be an owner of new strategic growth opportunities utilizing pricing strategies, collaborating closely with product, data science, and underwriting teams to launch and scale new initiatives

  • Further your own actuarial education through CAS exams and industry research, applying those learnings directly to real-world challenges at Lemonade and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement

What you’ll need

  • 5+ CAS actuarial exams (ACAS is preferred)

  • 4+ years of experience in pricing, reserving, or similar related roles

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field

  • General knowledge of data science programming languages such as R or Python required, and proficiency in database query tools such as SQL

  • Prior personal lines pricing experience is a definite plus

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical, data-informed approach to decision-making.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work in a remote environment

  • Enthusiasm about learning and adapting to the exciting world of AI – a commitment to exploring this field is a fundamental part of our culture.

Lemonade’s US base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000 - $140,000 plus equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
