With 100+ team members and growing, we’re entering a phase of accelerated growth and looking for top talent to help shape our future.

The Role:

As a Staff Software Engineer you will be a senior technical leader responsible for driving the design, development, and delivery of complex software systems. By combining deep technical expertise with strong leadership and strategic thinking you will guide your fellow team members toward high-impact outcomes. Influence architecture decisions, set technical direction, and ensure the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of software solutions. Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners—including product managers, designers, and other engineers—to align technical initiatives with business goals. Mentor and coach other engineers, fostering growth, best practices, and a culture of technical excellence within the organization.

Please note that we have a strong preference for this person to be based in EST or CST time zones.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and maintain restful services, ensuring performant, scalable, observable, maintainable solutions in collaboration with Software Architect
  • Lead by example with hands-on coding, code reviews, and architectural reviews, while also anticipating long-term challenges such as system performance, technical debt, and evolving technology stacks
  • Advance AI-assisted usage by championing best practices and practical applications for ai-assisted code generation ensuring speed gains are paired with validation, security, and reliability
  • Establish best practices for testing (unit, integration, snapshot, e2e), CI/CD pipelines, code quality, and observability in backend systems
  • Mentor and empower engineers across multiple teams, raising the bar through reviews, workshops, and shared documentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Software Architect, Product, Design, Data Science/Medical, and Security to translate requirements into elegant, maintainable solutions

About You:

Must Haves:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with significant expertise in RESTful services and database design
  • 4+ years building large-scale restful services including database design
  • Strong grasp of modern Java programming, tooling and ecosystems (Maven, JVM internals, advanced Java features, multi-threading, concurrency, memory management)
  • Deep understanding of the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Security), Microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows, and proven ability to accelerate development workflows through practical application
  • Proficiency in query performance optimization and transactional consistency
  • Strong communication skills—able to drive consensus, document decisions (ADRs, RFCs), and present tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice To Haves:

  • Experience with Temporal orchestration.
  • Experience with Aurora Postgres production tuning.
  • Previous work in digital health or regulated environments (EHRs, HIPAA, GDPR)
  • Familiarity with backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns.

Compensation: The base salary budgeted for this position is in the $170,000-200,000 range per year. This position will also include a yearly target discretionary bonus as well as equity. The final offer determined for the candidate who is hired into this position will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant skills, professional experience, labor market conditions, etc.
