Role Overview

We are seeking an n8n Tech Lead to drive the technical evolution of a global workflow automation platform. This role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership and deep automation architecture.

You’ll design scalable systems, mentor engineers, and define the technical roadmap for workflow automation — ensuring reliability, performance, and innovation at every layer. This is not a traditional people management role, but one where you lead through code, architecture, and technical influence.

  • Enable real-time, high-volume, and bi-directional data synchronization across the business
  • Improve system reliability with advanced error handling, fallback logic, and performance tuning
  • Build scalable automation architecture that supports enterprise expansion
  • Pair business requirements with technical engineering to deliver workflows that operate 247 with minimal maintenance
  • Empower business users and stakeholders with training, documentation, and automation best practices

Core Responsibilities

Workflow Development & Management

  • Design advanced automation workflows using n8n’s visual builder and 400+ integrations
  • Build lightweight custom nodes and functions using JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Analyze business processes and create automation strategies that significantly reduce manual work
  • Implement robust error handling, retries, and fallback mechanisms
  • Build and execute testing strategies covering edge cases and failure scenarios

Technical Administration

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain n8n instances across development, staging, and production
  • Monitor workflow execution, identify bottlenecks, and optimize performance
  • Implement security best practices: API key rotation, access control, credential management
  • Define backup strategies and disaster recovery planning
  • Manage workflow versioning and deployments using Git-based workflows

Integration & Development

  • Build API integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and custom authentication
  • Transform, validate, and enrich data using JavaScript
  • Develop workflows that interact with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Create reusable JavaScript functions across workflows
  • Implement webhook-based real-time integrations

Business Partnership

  • Work with stakeholders to convert business needs into technical workflows
  • Document workflow logic, dependencies, and maintenance procedures
  • Train users on automation best practices and self-service capabilities
  • Provide Tier 23 support for workflow issues and resolve complex automation incidents

Must-Haves (Required)

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with n8n
  • Proven expertise in complex workflows (20+ nodes, conditional logic, loops, batch processing)
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, OAuth2, API keys, JWT, and rate limiting
  • JavaScript proficiency (ES6+, async/await, debugging, error handling)
  • Experience with JSON/XML manipulation, data validation, and data mapping
  • Ability to write SQL queries and interact with databases
  • Git version control fundamentals
  • Experience with Docker basics, Linux command line, and cloud environment fundamentals
  • Ability to manage multiple n8n environments with reliability and uptime focus

Nice-to-Haves (Preferred)

  • Experience with Python for data processing
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite)
  • Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, or similar CRMs
  • Exposure to observability tools, logging, and workflow monitoring
  • Experience connecting on-premise systems with cloud applications
