Job description
Our client, an innovative, mission-driven medical technology organization is seeking a Lead Counsel to report to the General Counsel and serve as a key partner to leadership and operational teams. The role will primarily focus on commercial contracting, especially clinical contracting, while also providing broad support across corporate, litigation, employment, and compliance matters. The organization is in a growth phase, with multiple products in development and a strong global clinical trials pipeline.
Ideal Candidate
- J.D. degree and active legal bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5–8 years of combined law firm and in-house experience—strong preference for candidates with medical device or life sciences backgrounds.
- Demonstrated expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts, notably clinical trial agreements; familiarity with U.S. and international clinical contracting is highly valued.
- Broad-based legal experience in litigation, employment, compliance, and corporate governance.
- Comfortable in a lean team setting, adept at balancing both strategic and hands-on work, and committed to delivering practical, business-first legal advice.
Core Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a range of commercial agreements, with a primary focus on clinical trial contracts.
- Provide legal guidance on domestic and international clinical contracting practices and regulatory complexities.
- Support corporate governance, compliance initiatives, litigation, employment matters, and risk management.
- Partner cross-functionally to align legal and business strategies.
- Design, refine, and implement contract management tools and legal workflows to improve efficiency.
This hybrid position is located in Hayward, California with flexible scheduling options. The anticipated base salary range is $220,000–$250,000, with total compensation including bonus and equity opportunities.
