Position Overview
GameRant is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and knowledgeable News Lead to oversee our daily gaming news coverage. The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of the gaming landscape, excellent editorial judgment, and a passion for helping writers deliver accurate, fast, and compelling stories. This role is responsible for shaping news strategy, managing a team of writers, and ensuring GameRant remains competitive and credible as a top-tier gaming news destination.
What We’re Looking For:
- Lead daily news operations, including story selection, assignment, editing, and publication scheduling.
- Manage a team of staff writers and freelancers, providing coaching, feedback, and performance guidance.
- Stay ahead of gaming trends, industry developments, announcements, and breaking stories to inform coverage priorities.
- Edit news articles for clarity, accuracy, voice, SEO best practices, and brand alignment.
- Coordinate rapid-response coverage for major announcements, showcases, leaks, trailers, and emerging stories.
- Maintain high editorial standards, ensuring reporting is factual, ethical, and up to date.
- Monitor analytics and performance metrics to guide planning and optimize newsroom output.
- Build industry relationships with PR representatives, developers, and publishers.
- Contribute original reporting, including interviews, previews, and feature-length news analysis.
Skills We’re Looking For:
- Proven editorial experience in digital media, ideally in gaming or entertainment.
- Strong understanding of the gaming industry, gaming communities, and major platforms (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, etc).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, especially during breaking news events.
- Excellent editing and writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with CMS platforms, SEO principles, and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Search Console).
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to guide, mentor, and inspire a team of writers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in newsroom leadership or team management.
- Established industry contacts or familiarity with PR cycles.
- Knowledge of longform/reporting best practices in addition to daily news.
