You Will
- Own design strategy for your entire product while contributing to basic platform patterns that other teams can leverage. You’ll define the strategic direction for your product, identifying how it connects to platform capabilities and establishing principles that guide all design decisions within your product’s features and touchpoints.
- Navigate significant ambiguity independently, escalating only problems that cannot be solved at your level. You’ll create frameworks that help your team make progress even when long-term direction is unclear, balancing your product-specific needs with platform-wide consistency requirements.
- Lead cross-team initiatives that require alignment between multiple squads, breaking down silos and ensuring coherent experiences across organizational boundaries. You’ll orchestrate design efforts that span your entire product while contributing to platform capabilities that benefit the broader ecosystem.
- Set and maintain quality standards for your entire product, pushing creative boundaries while maintaining usability and accessibility. You’ll review and elevate design work across your product team, establishing benchmarks that others aspire to achieve.
- Make strategic design decisions that affect business metrics over multiple quarters, balancing long-term vision with short-term needs. You’ll use data and research to demonstrate impact, building dashboards with your Triad to monitor performance and inform future decisions.
- Contribute to platform evolution through basic but critical patterns like search, navigation, or data visualization. You’ll work at the intersection of product and platform, ensuring your solutions scale beyond your immediate scope while maintaining your product’s unique needs.
- Mentor designers across your product through structured programs and detailed feedback, helping them develop both craft excellence and strategic thinking. You’ll lead workshops on product-wide design approaches and contribute to hiring decisions for your team.
Must-have Skills
- 4-7+ years of product design experience, with demonstrated ability to own design strategy for entire products or complex product areas.
- A portfolio demonstrating strategic design thinking at scale, showing how you’ve shaped product direction, established design systems, and delivered measurable business impact across multiple quarters.
- Proven experience leading design for entire products, not just features, with ability to balance multiple stakeholder needs and navigate competing priorities across teams.
- Track record of platform-level thinking, contributing patterns and frameworks that scale beyond individual products while maintaining coherence across diverse use cases.
- Excellence in design craft and systems thinking, with deep understanding of how to create scalable, maintainable design solutions that work across different contexts and user types.
- Strong business acumen with ability to connect design decisions to metrics like engagement, retention, and revenue. You speak the language of business and can demonstrate ROI for design investments.
- Experience navigating ambiguity and making independent decisions in complex, uncertain environments. You’re comfortable defining direction when the path forward isn’t clear.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including mentoring other designers, facilitating cross-functional workshops, and influencing without direct authority.
- Expertise in modern design tools and workflows, particularly Figma, with ability to establish best practices for documentation, handoff, and collaboration at scale.
- Deep knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices, ensuring your products work for all users regardless of ability.
