Position Description
Reporting to the Benefits Manager, the Benefits HR Specialist will be responsible for delivering benefits and human resources programs to employees. They will be the go-to person for both new hires and long-standing employees looking to make the most out of Rocketship’s benefits. They will provide guidance and address employee inquiries, as well as serve as the primary liaison with third-party benefits vendors. The Specialist will also oversee the administration of critical talent and HR systems, such as oversight of various leaves systems and handle all aspects of worker’s compensation claims, unemployment, and other areas of compliance. They will work closely with all HR team members to ensure an excellent employee experience.
The following are essential functions related to the role.
Benefits Administration & Support
- Maintain a strong working relationship with all third party vendors
- Work with vendors to quickly resolve employee issues
- Support the open enrollment process and employee communications
- Support the processing of documentation as needed, ensuring all required documents and data are updated appropriately in Rocketship systems
- Support the Benefits Manager with policy creation
- Collaborate with other members of the HR team to drive recruitment and retention strategies through the deployment of benefits programs that support the organization’s competitive employee value proposition
- Maintain employee confidence by keeping benefit information confidential
- Keep apprised of employee benefit best practices by researching industry and employment trends and tracking legislation
- Perform other duties as assigned
Human Resources Systems & Compliance
- Manage administration and tracking of employee leaves, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and Rocketship policies.
- Oversee the worker’s compensation and unemployment processes and claim tracking, including data gathering, documentation, and vendor coordination where appropriate.
- Support employee ADA requests in collaboration with HR Business Partners and managers to ensure compliant and timely responses.
- Manage other Talent-team systems to ensure the support of employees and compliant practices, such as the HR ticketing system
Communications & Employee Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits support, including new hire enrollments, employee changes and life events, and general benefits inquiries
- Regularly hold office hours and meet one-on-one with staff as needed
- Prepare announcements, presentations, and internal employee communications related to Rocketship benefits
- Support the annual Total Rewards Statement distribution to staff
- Manage day-to-day operations of our employee ticketing system
Data Systems
- Input and maintain benefits-related data to ensure accuracy, identify and resolve any issues, and track trends; perform periodic data quality checks
- Create and maintain custom reports for various benefit reviews and compliance requests
- Submit data and reports to internal teammates and third party vendors as needed
- Continually update and strengthen existing systems and processes
Required Qualifications
- H.S. diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience involving benefits support and administration and/or human resources
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Customer-service orientation
- Solutions-oriented
- Continuous learner who can quickly understand and apply Rocketship policies
- Commitment to Rocketship’s mission and a belief that all students can achieve success
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, finance, social sciences, or related field
- Experience working with leaves administrator and worker’s compensation vendor(s) is preferred
- Experience working in education in a K-12 setting preferred
- Familiarity with Workday or similar HRIS
$50,000 - $72,000 a year
