Director of People Communications & Experience

Remote Location: Seattle, WA; San Francisco Bay Area; Austin, TX; or Washington, DC

Position Summary

As our Director of People Communications & Experience, you will shape how employees connect with our culture — through clear communication, compelling brand storytelling, and thoughtful experiences. This role is responsible for driving internal communications strategy, leading culture-focused programming and events, stewarding our employer brand, and overseeing the strategic direction of our Workplaces function.

You will work closely with the People leadership team, Talent Acquisition, and Marketing to help attract top talent, reinforce a strong sense of connection and belonging, and bring our values to life in everyday moments.

At HackerOne, we embrace a Flexible Work approach, enabling our team members to work remotely while maintaining productivity and collaboration. We are seeking candidates located in Seattle, WA; San Francisco Bay Area; Austin, TX; or Washington, DC; and the surrounding metropolitan areas to facilitate occasional in-person interactions as needed. While the position is primarily remote, there will be periodic in-person requirements to support team collaboration and foster stronger connections. This approach ensures flexibility while providing opportunities to build meaningful in-person relationships that strengthen our team and company culture.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Communications

  • Design and lead the company-wide internal communications strategy to drive clarity, alignment, and cultural connection.

  • Implement programs that engage, inspire, and align employees with HackerOne’s brand, mission, values, and key initiatives.

  • Champion a flexible workplace by supporting both global hubs and remote teams, introducing best practices that adapt to varied workstyles, and driving a strong documentation-first culture that keeps everyone aligned and informed.

  • Craft and support executive communications for key leaders and company-wide initiatives.

  • Evolve internal communications channels (All Hands, newsletters, Slack, intranet) to improve reach and relevance.

  • Build toolkits and frameworks for manager and leader communication.

Employee Experience & Culture Activation

  • Curate and oversee the calendar of employee experiences and cultural moments, both virtual and in-person.

  • Lead the strategy for our company hubs and Workplaces to ensure centralized locations support collaboration, connection, and a consistent employee experience.

  • Bring intentionality to milestone moments (onboarding, anniversaries, celebrations) that reinforce pride and inclusion.

Employer Brand & Talent Attraction

  • Develop and own our Employer Value Proposition (EVP), ensuring it resonates with both candidates and employees.

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and Marketing to activate the brand through career content, social campaigns, and reputation platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Glassdoor).

  • Co-lead recruitment marketing efforts in partnership with Talent Acquisition, including management of an external agency to increase creative capacity and output.

You’ll Be Successful in This Role If You…

  • Are a strategic communicator with a gift for storytelling and a keen understanding of how communication and experience shape culture.

  • Think holistically about the employee journey and how each touchpoint reinforces connection, brand, and belonging.

  • Thrive in cross-functional partnerships, influencing outcomes through trust and clarity.

  • Can balance big-picture strategy with hands-on execution through a small team and extended collaborators.

  • Are passionate about creating inclusive, human-centered experiences that align with business priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in internal communications, employer brand, employee experience, or a related field.

  • People-first mindset with the emotional intelligence to support teams through change, challenge, and growth

  • Proven track record owning company-wide comms and executive messaging.

  • Experience partnering on employer branding or talent marketing initiatives.

  • Strong writing and narrative development skills.

  • Prior experience shaping workplace or hub strategy is a plus.
