Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Engineering to lead the development and evolution of our video pipelines. This role requires deep expertise in video workflows, transcoding, and delivery systems, with hands-on experience in Python and Perl. You will lead a team of engineers responsible for building scalable, efficient, and innovative video infrastructure to support Fandango’s expanding content ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team responsible for building and maintaining video ingestion, processing, transcoding, and delivery pipelines.
  • Architect and implement scalable, fault-tolerant, and high-performance video workflows using Python and Perl.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, Content Operations, DevOps, and QA to ensure alignment on video strategy and priorities.
  • Define engineering best practices, code standards, and quality benchmarks for video-related systems.
  • Drive long-term architectural decisions to support future growth and flexibility of video systems.
  • Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team, setting clear expectations and guiding career development.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies in video streaming, encoding formats, and content delivery.
  • Oversee vendor relationships and integration with third-party video processing or CDN services.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Deep understanding of video technologies including encoding, packaging, DRM, adaptive bitrate streaming (HLS, DASH), and delivery systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and Perl for scripting and pipeline automation.
  • Experience with FFmpeg, GStreamer, or similar media processing tools.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud video workflows (AWS Media Services, GCP Media APIs, etc.).
  • Experience with Vidinet and encoding systems such as Ateme or Elemental. Familiarity with CableLabs ADI specifications and file transfer tools such as Aspera.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling video infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and external vendor relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in media, entertainment, or OTT streaming platforms.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools for video performance.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.
