Salary: $180,000 - $200,000

What will you do?
We’re looking for an experienced Lead Platform Software Engineer to ensure Midnite is always up, fast and resilient - no matter what the time of day. You’ll have the opportunity to help build the Australian backend team by setting the engineering practices and culture. This is a high impact, high autonomy role: you’ll be the person people rely on when things break and the person they respect when things improve. Expect to be challenged and rewarded in equal measure.
Technical
Our tech stack is primarily implemented in Python and hosted on AWS, incorporating technologies such as Flask, Pytest, Mypy, Docker, PostgreSQL, SQS, S3 and Terraform, and we deploy daily. While familiarity with these technologies is preferred, it’s not mandatory; what matters most to us is your commitment to maintaining high engineering standards.
Collaboration & Leadership
You’ll work primarily with your local Australia team and collaborate with our existing UK based Platform and Backend Engineering teams. You’ll be identifying and driving vital reliability improvement work, including overall systems design and architecture. As the Australia team grows, you’ll focus more on Platform Engineering to accelerate Midnite’s engineering efficiency.
We care about developer experience and productivity, hence we use tools that work for us like Linear, Notion and Slack. Most of our engineers use the latest Mac laptops.
Expectations
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software and systems
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code
- Participate in code reviews and ensure the quality of the codebase
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies
- Participate in daytime on-call and incident response roster with some daytime weekend work, if an incident should occur.
- Able to travel for quarterly team meet ups in an Australian capital city.
