Job description

Reports to: Head of BD & Sales

Preferred Locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, or Boston (Remote OK)

We’re looking for a Manager, Commercial Negotiations & Projects (IC Role) to help scale clean energy adoption at Station A. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, early-stage environment and enjoys negotiating complex contracts, coordinating across disciplines, and unlocking scalable, financeable project structures in the C&I renewable energy space.

Who we are

Station A is a technology company reimagining how clean energy is bought and sold. Our distributed team is made up of climate-minded technologists, strategists, and operators committed to making climate action a no-brainer for everyone. We combine proprietary software with industry expertise to guide commercial real estate owners and operators through their decarbonization journey—from analyzing their portfolio to sourcing competitive clean energy bids in our marketplace.

What you’ll do

As the Manager, Commercial Negotiations & Projects, you’ll build and lead our commercial contracting program from the ground up. You’ll shape project outcomes, align stakeholders, and accelerate the clean energy transition by:

  • Lead High-Stakes Negotiations: Own the full contract lifecycle—including drafting, redlining, stakeholder alignment, and execution. You’ll take point on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Community Solar Leases, Interconnection Agreements, and Turnkey EPC & O&M contracts.
  • Translate Complexity Into Clarity: Bridge legal, financial, and technical requirements to craft terms that are clear, financeable, and aligned with both customer and provider priorities.
  • Orchestrate Project Execution: Serve as the connective tissue across teams—ensuring timelines are met, deliverables are aligned, and communication flows smoothly between internal stakeholders, customers, utilities, and providers.
  • Champion the Customer Perspective: Leverage your understanding of project economics, tax equity, site-level risk, and real estate dynamics to advocate for customer value in every commercial conversation.
  • Build for Scale: Continuously improve our contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and internal workflows. You’ll identify patterns, remove friction, and lay the foundation for a scalable, team-ready function.

Compensation & Transparency

We believe in pay transparency. The annual base salary for this role is $130k - $170k, with performance-based annual bonus and stock options. Learn more about our benefits here.

We’re looking for someone who can own this function and hit the ground running. If you bring experience in several of the areas below—and are excited to build a critical function from scratch—we’d love to hear from you.

  • Extensive experience (typically 6–10+ years) negotiating and managing commercial contracts, ideally in solar, energy storage, or infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success leading negotiations for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), community solar leases, and interconnection agreements for commercial-scale projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of tax equity structures, third-party ownership models (e.g., partnership flip, sale-leaseback), and the financial drivers that shape project success (IRR, NPV, customer savings).
  • Experience working with commercial real estate portfolios, including multi-tenant buildings, with an understanding of rooftop site control challenges, structural reviews, and roof warranties.
  • Deep understanding of utility interconnection processes for distributed generation, including grid export rules, non-export configurations, and navigating approvals with utilities, inspectors, and AHJs.
  • Skilled at cross-functional collaboration with legal, finance, sales, and engineering teams—bringing clarity to complex commercial negotiations.
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with a track record of thriving in remote, fast-moving environments with evolving priorities.
  • Bonus: Background in project development, clean energy finance, or legal work (e.g., JD, paralegal, or in-house counsel) related to energy or commercial real estate.

Location & Travel

  • We prefer candidates based in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, or New York to align with our customer footprint and occasional in-person collaboration.
  • Travel is minimal—typically 2–4 onsite visits per year, with optional co-working days or team meetups depending on your location and team needs.

We’re committed to supporting a healthy, sustainable life outside of work:

  • Remote-friendly work environment (U.S.-based), with flexibility as long as it’s aligned with your team and manager
  • Access to co-working spaces depending on role and location
  • Flexible PTO, with a culture that encourages taking time to recharge
  • Monthly remote work stipend($50/mo or $600/yr)
  • Learning & development budget to support your professional growth
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance (including FSA and HSA options)
  • 401(k) plan, with matching on the roadmap
  • 12-15 paid holidays annually

We believe diverse perspectives fuel better ideas and stronger outcomes. Research shows that women and other underrepresented groups often apply only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. If you’re excited about this role—even if you don’t check every box—we encourage you to apply.
