Mid-level

Job description

At Praetorian, our mission is to prevent breaches before they occur. We envision a world where cybersecurity is proactive, not reactive—where organizations shift from an “assume breach” mindset to a prevention-first strategy that keeps them ahead of evolving threats.

We deliver on that vision by hiring the top 1% of offensive security talent and empowering them to tackle the industry’s most complex security challenges. Our team of elite engineers operates at the forefront of adversary simulation, application security, cloud security, and beyond.

Through red team engagements, sophisticated attack simulations, and Chariot—our fully managed continuous threat exposure management platform—we help organizations stay in control of their dynamic attack surfaces. Our human-led, tech-enabled approach allows clients to uncover and remediate exploitable vulnerabilities before they can be leveraged by real-world threat actors.

If you’re drawn to technical excellence, continuous learning, and work that truly makes an impact, you’ll thrive at Praetorian.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance on challenging security projects for our Professional Services and Managed Services customers
  • Develop custom methodologies, payloads, exploits, and tools to ensure project success
  • Develop new Chariot capabilities based upon security vulnerabilities identified in consulting security projects.
  • Learn as much as possible about the industry and the work we do

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated passion for Offensive Security and Adversarial Engineering

  • Demonstrated passion and experience in any of the following:

    • Product Security Testing (Application, Mobile, LLM)
    • Cloud Security (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Web Application Penetration Testing
    • Internal/External Network Penetration Testing
    • Red Team
    • IoT Security (Embedded, Firmware, Wireless)
    • Secure Code Review
    • Reverse Engineering
    • Vulnerability Research / Exploit Development
  • Experience writing software or scripts using common offensive security languages such as Go (Golang), Python, PowerShell, or Bash

  • Internships with cyber, startup, and/or high-tech companies

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physics

+1 Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable contributions to vulnerability research, exploit development, and CVE assignments
  • Familiarity with AI prompt engineering to support tool development, script generation, payload creation, and adversary emulation
  • Capture-the-flag, CCDC, CPTC or other security related competitions
  • Notable achievements on testing platforms such as Hack the Box, TryHackMe, Portswigger and similar
  • Verifiable open source contribution with git commits to popular offsec projects
  • Security community experience via presentations, conference attendance, blogs, white papers and similar
  • PNPT, BSCP, OSCP, CPTS, OSWE, OSCE, OSEP, OSED, CRTO, cloud certifications and similar

Desired Behaviors:

  • Fanatical passion for cybersecurity and the challenges it presents
  • Customer centric focus with an obsessive need to wow and delight each client
  • Ability to maintain high levels of output and work ethic
  • Personable individual who enjoys working in a team-oriented environment
  • Self-starter and independent learner that is able to spin up quickly

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Equity Incentive Plan, offering ownership stakes in the company
  • Continuous learning opportunities through our internal Learning & Development (L&D) program
  • Comprehensive health and dental insurance coverage
  • Immediate 401(k) matching
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave

We believe in clarity and fairness from the start. For candidates based in California, Colorado, Washington, and New York, the estimated base salary range for this role is $105,000-$140,000. If you’re drawn to uncovering the unknown, pushing technical boundaries, and making a real impact, you’ll be right at home here.

You’ll work alongside some of the best minds in the industry to help the world’s leading companies take control of their evolving attack surfaces. We thrive on bold thinking, technical excellence, and a shared commitment to building a more secure future.
