Job description

MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

The MongoDB Developer Experience team builds and maintains the rich set of libraries and integrations that serve as the primary developer interfaces to the MongoDB database, maintaining support for more than ten programming languages. We’re a globally distributed team with developers in multiple time zones and continents. Our senior engineers are typically specialists in a particular programming language, but are capable of contributing to projects in other languages as well.

To work with this team, we are looking for a seasoned product manager who has a background in software engineering (ideally, library/API development & management) - someone who would understand the desires of the developer community intimately from the user perspective.  Therefore, our ideal candidate has hands-on experience building full-stack web applications, is a fast learner, and is comfortable with reading and noticing flaws in technical documentation and technical implementation: You are passionate about working with engineers and understand the software development lifecycle, and are able to crisply communicate what is ideal, what is acceptable, and what won’t work. You have spent time on sites like StackOverflow searching for solutions. You thrive when working independently, and communicate well both in person and to a crowd. You have an insatiable desire to learn and improve yourself, and keeping your technical skills sharp is important to you despite working in a product role.

As the Senior Product Manager for JavaScript Developer Experience, you will own the strategic vision for how MongoDB serves the JavaScript and TypeScript developer communities. You will define how our product portfolio—including client libraries, framework integrations, and ecosystem partnerships—should evolve to meet both current developer expectations and future trends in the JavaScript ecosystem.

You will lead product strategy and roadmap development across this portfolio, balancing short-term developer needs with long-term platform differentiation. Your work will shape how developers build with MongoDB—from the first line of code written to the eventual production deployment—ensuring a seamless, idiomatic experience that earns MongoDB a central place in modern JavaScript stacks.

You will collaborate closely with engineering, documentation, DevRel, and community teams to deliver a cohesive developer experience, and act as a champion for the JavaScript ecosystem within MongoDB. You’ll stay ahead of trends, identify strategic opportunities, and make evidence-based decisions that drive adoption and delight.

As part of onboarding, you will build and document an application using MongoDB and a JavaScript framework of your choice to gain firsthand insight into the developer experience. You’ll also engage directly with community forums, conferences, and open-source contributors to deepen your understanding, validate direction, and build trust with developers.

This role can be based out of our Vancouver or Toronto office or remotely in Canada.

The ideal candidate for this role should have

  • 3-5 years of product management experience with a track record of shipping developer-facing tools, integrations or APIs
  • 2-3 years of commercial experience developing web applications in Javascript/TypeScript (the interviews for this position will include a live coding component meant to showcase your understanding idioms, patterns, and evolving runtime environments)
  • Ability to communicate sophisticated technical issues simply and convincingly to a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to distill customer use cases and requirements, write comprehensive business cases and execute on them
  • Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to continue learning
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment according to MongoDB’s Core Values

Position Expectations

  • Explore the problem space, interact with the users, formulate the vision and the strategy and maintain the roadmap for your area, keeping it aligned with the company’s strategic priorities
  • Deeply understand all aspects of the business — your job is to ensure a business outcome, not just product definition!
  • Work closely with the product marketing and engineering teams to design, architect, implement and ship new capabilities of the MongoDB developer experience to delight users
  • Collect and analyze data that will drive product decisions
  • Work with thought leaders from the respective language communities, establish credibility, and weigh in discussions
  • Keep your pulse on software engineering trends across language communities and advocate for new languages, frameworks etc  to be added to our portfolio
  • Engage in various go to market activities such as collaborating on a marketing campaign, running a survey, or producing sales messaging

Success Measures

  • In three months, you will have onboarded on the current MongoDB technologies & tools, and built an application with JavaScript or TypeScript and MongoDB, putting it in public on Github; successfully triaged new issues with the engineering team, taken ownership of the existing roadmap and the product backlog; got to know the team (this team is globally distributed) and started building relationships inside the company
  • In six months, you will have reviewed / refined existing user stories and JIRA issues, prioritized and started executing on them with your  engineering team; you will have also researched new and existing markets, identified some new trends and started their exploration in a methodical way
  • In nine months, you have produced at least two GA releases of tier 1 drivers, several service releases, delighted users with new/improved experiences (you’ll need to define your metrics to measure customer success with your deliverables as well), identified new opportunities & refined your roadmap, contributed to other projects, presented to customers, user groups, and conferences, and gained strong support of your team and other stakeholders
