About HopSkipDrive
HopSkipDrive started in 2014, providing transportation for schools and families. We offer student transportation services through a network of certified CareDrivers who use small vehicles. We also offer RouteWise AIβ’, a student transportation intelligence platform that gives school districts custom, data-driven routing plans.
Our safety measures include a 15-point CareDriver certification process, real-time tracking, alerts, monitoring of driving behavior, and a Safe Rides team that monitors every trip. Our technology supports parents and caregivers with an app or web-based scheduling tool, and schools and government agencies with a custom platform.
We support various student transportation needs, including those for students eligible for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, youth in foster care, students with special needs and IEPs, charter school students, general education students, and transportation for after-school activities and Career and Technical Education programs.
We serve schools, families, government agencies, and nonprofits. We operate in over 13 states, have helped more than 10,000 schools, and facilitated over 3.3 million rides. We have raised $100 million in funding.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to create opportunity for all through mobility, specifically by addressing inequities in educational access. We believe that access to transportation should not determine success, and our platform aims to connect individuals to opportunities.
Our core values guide us:
- Safety Is Everything: We continuously innovate in technology, data, and human expertise to ensure user safety.
- Feel It: We approach our customers, teams, and communities with empathy and compassion to understand needs and deliver impactful outcomes.
- Customer First: We focus on delivering excellent customer experiences.
- Make Tomorrow Better: We encourage curiosity, experimentation, challenging the status quo, and accountability for continuous improvement.
- Move Fast, Stay Nimble: We act quickly with urgency, valuing progress over perfection.
- Win Together: We foster debate and diverse perspectives, promote ownership and integrity, and celebrate collective successes.
Team & Culture
We employ between 350 and 500 individuals. We operate with a remote-first culture, supporting employment across the U.S. and offering employee flexibility. While our headquarters is in Los Angeles, it serves as a gathering point for collaboration and connection.
To build community within our distributed workforce, we use strategies like a social committee, peer recognition tools, Slack communities for common interests, remote summer and holiday parties, and a “hub program” to connect employees in areas with five or more employees (like Denver, New York City, Houston, and Nashville) for in-person gatherings.
Our interview process for salaried roles typically involves five stages, while hourly roles have three. This process ensures consistency and fairness, incorporating comprehensive interview and bias training for hiring team members, competency-based questions, and objective candidate feedback. Stages commonly include an initial phone conversation, a hiring manager conversation, a role-specific take-home assessment, and a panel interview.
Benefits & Perks
We offer a range of benefits and perks to our employees:
Health & Well-Being: Medical, Dental & Vision insurance, Health Spending Account, Mental Health Resources, Employee Assistance Program, Short- & Long-Term Disability Insurance, Paid Parental Leave.
Wealth & Investment: 401K Plan, Company Ownership/Equity (including equity participation and stock options for full-time employees), Medical & Dependent Care FSA, Travel Insurance, Supplemental Legal.
