The Lab Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the genomics laboratory and leading a team of scientists, technicians, and support staff. This role plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and efficiency of genomic experiments, data generation, and analysis, while also maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage the genomics laboratory’s day-to-day operations, including sample preparation, genomic sequencing, and data analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and quality control procedures.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of scientists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the laboratory.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of high-throughput genomic sequencing platforms.
  • Implement and optimize sequencing workflows to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of data generation.
  • Supervise the development and execution of data analysis pipelines and bioinformatics workflows.
  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians to ensure accurate genomic data interpretation.
  • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for genomic experiments and data management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA, as applicable.
  • Lead efforts to develop and validate new genomic assays and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with researchers and scientists to design and execute experiments for genomics research projects.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, supplies, and resources effectively, including budget oversight.
  • Assess and procure new equipment and technologies to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities, experiments, and results.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Genomics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field; M.D./Ph.D. preferred.
  • Certified by the ABMGG in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics, Laboratory Genetics and Genomics, Clinical Genetics and Genomics, or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with review and sign out of hereditary cancer data is preferred (2 years plus).
  • Significant experience (5+ years) in genomics research, with a proven track record of laboratory management.
  • In-depth knowledge of genomic sequencing technologies, data analysis, and bioinformatics.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance in genomics, including CLIA and CAP accreditation.
  • Excellent leadership, team-building, and mentoring skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is a plus.
