We are currently seeking a full-time Research Analyst II to join our Policy and Ratings team. In this role, you will work with other research analysts, data scientists, project managers, policy analysts, engineers, and other experts. You will have a broad impact on state, national, and international energy markets through our work for major utilities, local and state governments, non-governmental organizations, and other leaders in energy efficiency and clean energy policy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting qualitative and quantitative research and synthesizing findings for internal and external audiences
- Digesting complex technical reports and methodology; critically assessing data sources, including what the data represents, how it was developed or derived, and its applicability to various contexts; deriving inputs for energy policy impacts analysis
- Conducting quantitative analysis, including building stock characterization, technology characterization, market characterization, energy impacts analysis, financial impact analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, greenhouse gas impact analysis, and analysis of other energy, economic, environmental, and health metrics
- Producing clear, transparent documentation of research and analysis
- Developing presentations, reports, and other materials that effectively communicate methods, findings, and implications
- Conducting quality assurance and quality control practices to ensure high-quality work
- Learning and applying new analytical techniques and methodology, under the guidance of senior staff
- Providing oversight and review of supporting staff
- Working collaboratively with teams to successfully execute multiple concurrent projects within schedule and budget constraints
Minimum qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of relevant work experience (graduate school years applicable)
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., economics, engineering, another scientific field)
- Demonstrated excellence in conceptual analysis, critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and attention to detail
- Strong written and communication skills, including experience writing technical reports and delivering technical presentations
- Proven ability to manage and execute complex research tasks, independently and collaboratively
- Professional experience estimating costs and benefits, conducting cost-benefit analysis, and analyzing lifecycle cost impacts
- Relevant domain knowledge in at least one area, such as experience working on: energy efficiency, clean energy, electrification, demand flexibility, decarbonization, distributed energy resources, building science, utility programs, public policy, building codes, appliance standards, or regulations
- Professional experience conducting policy impact analysis, utility program impact evaluation, or techno-economic potential studies
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to prioritize and be flexible in a fast-paced, evolving, collaborative environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., economics, engineering, another quantitative scientific field)
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial or economic analysis, such as: estimating and forecasting capital costs and operational costs, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness tests, avoided energy supply costs, employment impacts, and fiscal impacts
- Demonstrated proficiency in applying analytical techniques used in energy policy impact analysis, such as baselining, scenario design, sensitivity analysis, technology adoption forecasting, distributional equity analysis, and greenhouse gas accounting
- Excellent data analysis skills (data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization)
- Experience conducting building energy simulation modeling
- Experience managing complex projects
- Willingness to conduct occasional business travel
Compensation to commensurate with experience with the pay band of $80k - $95k

Office Locations and a Remote Workforce
Energy Solutions operates as a predominantly remote workforce with offices in six different locations. Employees who reside within 40 miles of an office (except New York) will be assigned to that location, though in-office attendance requirements may vary by team.
