Job description
Our Journey at Keep
At Keep, we embarked on a mission with a powerful question: Why hasn’t the banking experience caught up with the rapid pace of technology?
This continues to fuel our passion for reshaping the Canadian fintech landscape. We provide businesses with a comprehensive suite of cross-border banking services, offering everything from credit cards to deposit accounts, currency conversions, and revenue financing.
With a team of seasoned global startup veterans with successful exits, Keep is committed to leading the charge as Canada’s next-generation fintech institution. Backed by VCs in the fintech sector, we’re racing ahead, expanding our reach and impact like never before.
About the Role
As part of our growing finance team, you’ll help us navigate the complexities of cross-border operations while ensuring we maintain impeccable tax compliance. We’re expanding our reach into exciting new territories, and we need someone who can both keep us compliant and help optimize our tax strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
In this role, you’ll work closely with our finance team to maintain accurate financial records while also providing valuable insights that inform our business decisions. You’ll have the space to manage tax initiatives independently, while also collaborating with a team that values both precision and adaptability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead US tax compliance and filings across federal, state, and local levels with minimal supervision.
Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize our cross-border operations.
Lead day-to-day financial transactions, including data entry of receipts, invoices, and other financial documents.
Maintain organized and accurate financial records to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Manage the processing of bills, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payment schedules.
Direct reconciliation of vendor statements and address discrepancies in a timely manner.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve payment-related inquiries.
Prepare comprehensive financial statements by performing reconciliations and ensuring the accuracy of supporting documentation.
Work closely with the accounting team to compile data and information required for financial reporting.
Implement accounting standards and policies to ensure compliance with US regulatory requirements.
Lead day-to-day accounting activities, including complex journal entries and month-end close processes.
Provide guidance on US tax implications for business decisions and new product offerings.
Stay current on changes in US tax legislation and assess their impact on our operations.
Who You Are:
Accounting, Finance, or related field graduate with work experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative tasks.
Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong knowledge of US tax regulations and filing requirements, including federal and state tax compliance.
Proactive mindset with a keen interest in understanding and improving processes.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
It’s a plus if you have:
Knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and requirements
Familiarity with Mexican tax requirements (SAT filings and CFDIs)
Experience with cross-border tax considerations between North American countries
Understanding of US sales tax nexus rules across multiple states
Experience with tax preparation software for multiple jurisdictions
QuickBooks Online experience and financial statement knowledge
Interest or experience in the fintech sector
Comfort in a fast-paced, evolving work environment
Why You Should be Excited About This Role:
Play a significant role in shaping the future of the Canadian fintech industry by ensuring top-notch compliance standards.
Drive impactful data strategies and initiatives that contribute to the exponential growth of our organization.
Join an enthusiastic team of professionals dedicated to leaving a lasting mark on the ever-evolving fintech landscape.
Collaborate with a dedicated team that values innovation, encourages collaboration, and is committed to continual growth and improvement.
Contribute to the transformation of how businesses perceive and utilize cross-border banking solutions in Canada.
Why Join Keep?
We’re obsessed with investing in data-driven solutions and cutting-edge technologies.
Be a part of a team that’s rewriting the playbook for the Canadian fintech industry.
Data is the fuel for our growth engine, and you’ll be in the driver’s seat shaping our data strategies.
Embrace a fully inclusive and remote-friendly company culture that values diversity and work-life balance.
Help us bring modern banking solutions to businesses, reshaping the banking experience for our customers.
Why This Might Not Be a Good Fit:
If you’re a stickler for a highly structured environment with constant hand-holding, you might find our culture of autonomy and trust a bit different.
If you’re more of a slow-and-steady-wins-the-race kind of person, our fast-paced, dynamic environment might be a bit of a rollercoaster.
Given the nature of our industry and our rapid growth, ambiguity and uncertainty are all part of the ride. If you prefer clear-cut structures or roles, you might find our dynamic environment a bit too adventurous.
Collaboration is the heartbeat of Keep, and if you prefer to work in your own little bubble without engaging with the wider team, you might find our approach to teamwork a tad unconventional.
