Job description
Honor exists to expand the world’s capacity to care.
We’re combining high tech with high-touch to deliver better home care for aging adults, better jobs for Care Professionals, and entirely new offerings to support the aging journey, at scale.
Founded in 2014, and now a Series E funded “Unicorn” valued at over $1B, Honor leads the world’s largest home care network with the most advanced care platform. Our August 2021 acquisition of Home Instead has created a global company that’s revolutionizing how society cares for older adults, their families, and Care Professionals.
The Honor Care Platform combines local care and the most advanced technology to bring the highest quality care to more aging adults.
Grow at Honor as part of a united team where everyone shows up authentically, shares ideas bravely, and solves complex problems!
About the Work:
We’re building AI systems to support real-world operations. Our team is focused on applying AI to workflows where speed, accuracy, and resilience matter—these systems are becoming core to how we operate, and we’re actively shaping how they evolve.
You’ll join the team responsible for Directed Work—our internal system that tracks what needs to be done across the company. It acts as the coordination layer for operational tasks, routing work between people and AI systems. It’s a unique opportunity to work on an AI-powered platform where task automation, human execution, and agentic reasoning all converge.
As a software engineer on this team, you’ll split your time between AI systems engineering and full-stack product development. You’ll design and implement retrieval pipelines, decision logic, and evaluation tools to support agent behavior in production—and also contribute to the Directed Work platform itself.
You’ll work with a high-performing group of engineers and data scientists, bringing together infrastructure, interface, and intelligence.
As a Senior AI Engineer at Honor, you will:
- Design and implement retrieval pipelines and context delivery for AI-driven workflows
- Build orchestration logic, tool routing, and fallback mechanisms for production AI systems
- Develop and maintain evaluation pipelines to assess AI behavior, identify regressions, and track long-term performance
- Contribute as a full-stack engineer to the Directed Work platform that powers operational coordination across the company
- Help shape a hybrid human–AI system for task management, execution, and automation
We’re looking for you to bring:
You’ll thrive in this role if you have experience building AI systems, particularly with large language models (LLMs) and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). We are looking for someone who can combine their technical expertise in data engineering and AI with full-stack engineering skills to develop scalable, real-world solutions.
- Experience in AI-powered applications, especially with leveraging LLMs, complex, conditional, multi-faceted information retrieval, and embeddings for operational workflows.
- Strong background in data architecture and integrating third-party APIs to enhance functionality, such as ride sharing APIs or search systems.
- Proven ability to design and implement graph-based and relational data models, and proficiency in GraphQL or other query systems.
- Experience leading or contributing to AI projects with a focus on real-world applications, like scalable complex decision logic, multi-agent orchestration systems or generative AI for healthcare.
- Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including bias and harmfulness analysis, evaluation driven development, and ensuring ethical AI deployment.
- Comfortable writing production software across the stack (backend, frontend, infrastructure) to support both the AI systems and the Directed Work platform.
- Ability to collaborate closely with data scientists and product teams to create AI-powered systems that are robust, scalable, and intuitive.
Why you will love this role:
- You’ll be at the intersection of AI vision and real-world application, working on innovative solutions that have a tangible impact.
- You’ll be part of a high-performing team of engineers and data scientists, collaborating to build a platform that will become central to the company’s operations.
- With your experience in building AI-powered task management systems, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of intelligent automation at Honor.
