Position Summary:
Miovision is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Data Scientist who is passionate about using data to improve transportation networks globally. With extensive datasets collected from international transportation systems over several years, we seek someone who thrives in challenging situations and can adapt to uncertainty. We need a data scientist who can dive deep into this data, formulate the right questions, effectively communicate insights, and develop tools to leverage these insights.
Your role will involve applying various techniques, including data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning/AI, to help our customers address real-world traffic challenges. You will work collaboratively with a diverse team of data scientists, architects, software developers, traffic engineers, product managers, sales professionals, and computer vision specialists to create data-driven, customer-focused solutions for our web-based analytics platform.
Key Accountabilities:
This role’s main responsibility is to lead, own and execute complex data-driven projects that provide actionable insights and solutions to support business objectives in a collaborative manner.
Other main responsibilities include:
- Break down new project requirements into small slices to deliver outcomes faster
- Prepare, transform and analyze data from real-world sources (location and vehicles)
- Build and own customer-facing models and data pipelines
- Explore and identify new sources of traffic data to combine with existing datasets
- Research and implement new tools and techniques to solve novel problems
- Drive improvements to data quality and completeness across the company
- Communicate insights and analyses with relevant stakeholders
- Become an expert in Miovision’s data stores and adhere to best practices for analyzing the data
- Understanding of current data collection techniques and biases/gaps
- Mentor and support junior members on the Data Science team
Skills/Qualifications:
- Over 5 years of relevant experience in data analysis, statistical analysis, data modeling, machine learning/AI, or deep learning.
- Strong background in Python programming, with the ability to write efficient and scalable code.
- Proficiency in SQL, with a preference for experience using Snowflake for data manipulation and analysis.
- Solid understanding of algorithms and techniques to address novel and complex problems.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Streamlit, Looker, or Dash to effectively communicate insights and findings.
- Proven experience in developing, validating, and deploying machine learning models into production environments.
- A strong inclination to explore new datasets, identify patterns or issues, and generate valuable insights.Working knowledge of traffic engineering practices.
- Motivation to research and explore alternative methodologies for enhanced data analysis and model development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating high-quality documentation and effectively conveying complex insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with Git for version control.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Nice to Haves:
- A master’s degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related sciences (such as Physics, Biology, or Chemistry) is preferred.
- Experience in analyzing and working with GIS data to derive insights and develop tools.
- Proficiency in reading and writing code in C# or JavaScript.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
