Senior DBA Engineer

Gorilla Logic is looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team of expert technologists. This is a unique and highly technical role focused on database performance, cloud-based infrastructure, security, and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with data engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure that our database systems are robust, secure, and high-performing. To thrive in this position, you should bring a combination of deep technical expertise, critical thinking, and proactive problem-solving. Responsibilities

*Administer, configure, and monitor SQL Server, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL environments.

*Design, implement, and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.

*Tune and optimize database performance using indexing strategies, execution plans, and diagnostic tools.

*Write, debug, and maintain complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts.

*Implement and manage database security protocols including role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and audit logging.

*Collaborate with data engineering and development teams to support ETL workflows, data pipelines, and reporting environments.

*Work with BI teams to create optimized data views and datasets for Power BI or other reporting tools.

*Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Azure AI) to accelerate documentation, code generation, and performance analysis.

*Monitor database health and proactively address potential issues using built-in and third-party tools.

*Participate in planning, execution, and documentation of system upgrades and migrations.

Technical Skills

*Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

*5+ years of hands-on experience as a DBA, including in cloud environments.

*Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, and PostgreSQL.

*Experience with cloud-based database solutions, particularly in Azure: Azure SQL Database, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Managed Instances.

*Strong command of T-SQL, performance tuning, and database normalization.

*Experience with ETL tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or equivalent.

*Familiarity with security, compliance, and database governance best practices.

*Understanding of business intelligence and data visualization needs.

Soft Skills

*Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

*Strong communication skills for collaboration with data engineers, developers, and product teams.

*Attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity and security best practices.

*Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

*Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

*Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

*Experience with CosmosDB or other NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB.
