Job description
Director, Business Systems Engineering, Employee Tech Group
HubSpot’s Business Technology (BizTech) organisation is passionate about helping the business scale efficiently through world‑class systems and automation. Within BizTech, the Employee Tech group owns a significant portion of HubSpot’s internal technology stack that powers our People, Legal and Finance functions.
The Employee Tech group comprises Business Systems Analysts, Program Managers, ServiceNow Admins/Engineers, Software Engineers and Data Analysts. Together they:
- Own all People‑related systems – including Workday, Greenhouse, recruiting/HR automations and the associated analytics & data pipelines.
- Own all Legal‑related systems – including Ironclad and other contract‑lifecycle tooling.
- Run HubSpot’s ServiceNow Centre of Excellence – ServiceNow is our central service‑delivery platform with hundreds of workflows and automations relied upon by teams company‑wide.
- Run HubSpot’s Workato Centre of Excellence – Workato is our primary iPaaS used to automate complex cross‑system workflows.
- Enable AI‑powered transformation for People, Legal and Finance – including administration of our ChatGPT & Claude Enterprise instances and stewardship of internally‑built GenAI tools.
- Deliver strategic bespoke automations via a focused software‑engineering squad.
Employee Tech’s primary stakeholders are the People, Legal and Finance leadership teams and every HubSpotter who interacts with them. Our mission is to help these functions operate more effectively and efficiently, and to enable them to provide better, faster service to HubSpotters. A critical part of that mission is leading the way on AI adoption and fluency across these domains.
Employee Tech also champions ServiceNow and Workato across the wider company, setting best‑practice standards and enabling dozens of other teams to leverage these platforms for their own automation needs.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a senior, highly‑technical business‑systems leader to steer the Employee Tech group through its next phase of maturity, innovation and value creation. This role will be pivotal in scaling our internal platforms, driving AI transformation, and nurturing an inclusive, high‑performance team culture.
In this role you’ll get to:
Drive AI‑first ways of working across People, Legal & Finance, championing experimentation and rapid adoption of GenAI capabilities.
Shape the next chapter of the group’s evolution into a technical organisation that is remarkable at engineering and delivering large, end‑to‑end business processes.
Solve complex scaling and efficiency challenges across HubSpot’s G&A landscape, ensuring we are set up for success in 2026 and beyond.
Empower the team to succeed by:
- Over‑communicating mission, vision and expectations.
- Coaching and developing diverse talent; cultivating a psychologically safe and inclusive environment.
- Framing problems clearly and establishing guardrails for high‑quality, sustainable work.
Partner with other internal tech teams and company‑wide leadership to maximise impact.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Deep technical pedigree – Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related; ideally started career as a software engineer.
- Hands‑on expertise with at least one (ideally all) of our core platforms: ServiceNow, Workday, Workato. Experience running Centres of Excellence is a plus.
- Experience working with People, Legal and Finance stakeholders at a senior level
- A passion for AI – you are an early adopter who actively experiments with AI/ML tools and can articulate their business impact.
- Proven leadership of multi‑disciplinary systems teams through scaling and transformation journeys
- Demonstrated ability to operationalise strategy and establish guardrails for complex, high‑volume systems environments.
- Track record of building trusted partnerships with C‑level and VP‑level stakeholders, translating vision into executable roadmaps and delivering reliably.
- Experience coaching managers and ICs into high‑performing, inclusive leaders.
- Comfortable giving and receiving clear, direct, actionable feedback.
- Alignment with HubSpot’s culture and HEART values (Humble, Empathetic, Adaptable, Remarkable, Transparent).
