About Karat

Founded in 2014, we help engineering leaders improve the quality, efficiency, and equity of technical hiring. We provide a system for companies like PayPal, Atlassian, and Citi to hire engineers.

Our system includes live, expert-led interviews conducted by trained engineers, analytics that show performance, and extensive interview data. We combine human expertise with technology to support the entire hiring process.

Our services include global hiring, hiring in India, contractor teams, early career talent, industry-specific hiring, and equitable and inclusive hiring. We also help with internal mobility by measuring core competencies and skill levels. We run the Brilliant Black Minds program, which offers free mock technical interviews to software engineers from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

We specialize in technical interviewing, hiring, SaaS, and technical assessment within the software development industry. To date, we have conducted over 350,000 technical interviews in more than 70 countries, using over 500 trained Interview Engineers. A new Human+AI approach to technical interviewing is under development.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to improve the technical interviewing and hiring process for software engineers. This unlocks opportunities for both hiring companies and candidates, connects individuals to jobs, and helps drive economic growth.

Our core principles are: Win as One Team, One Karat; Create Material Impact for Customers; Support the Whole Person; Embrace Real Talk; Build Trusted Relationships; and Champion Brilliance.

Team & Culture

We have 201-500 employees. Our culture emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and excellence. We call our employees ‘Karateers.’

We strive to build an inclusive environment that supports individuals, whether they work remotely or in-person. We aim to provide an environment that motivates and inspires employees to do their best work. While we support remote operations, some roles may require occasional in-person work at our Seattle HQ or travel for strategic meetings and industry events.
