About the role:
As the Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a group of talented, passionate software engineers. You’ll exert technical leadership by investing in their individual growth, managing the team operations, and participating in their day-to-day work. You’ll partner closely with multiple Product Managers to craft and maintain a strong vision for our software products, evaluating business impact and technical tradeoffs to support two strategic charters – New Homes Insurance Core and New Homes CX & Sales.
What will you do?
- Lead a team of eight engineers responsible for one of Hippo’s two strategic charters.
- Mentor both senior and junior engineers, fostering their growth for higher impact and effective teamwork.
- Collaborate with talented Product Managers to manage the team’s project roadmap, ensuring a balance of technical excellence, agility, and user benefit.
- Influence and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders within Hippo, including Sales, Retention, UX Design, QA, Data, and Finance.
- Demonstrate technical leadership with a data-driven approach, emphasizing excellent execution and high-quality software delivery.
- Coordinate with teams in our global locations across the US and Poland.

- Have experience in designing scalable, maintainable systems with a solid architectural understanding.
- Have successfully led one or more teams as a people manager.
- Communicate clearly, handle escalations effectively, and ensure continuous progress.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills, enabling you to troubleshoot issues effectively by asking the right questions and helping the team focus on what truly matters.
- Appreciate Product as a true partner and co-owner of software products.
- Maintain a relentless focus on end-users, creating customer-centric solutions.
- Have a proven ability to build teams, develop individuals, and influence cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Are adaptable, able to expand your scope of work or transition to new areas of impact within a fast-moving scale-up environment.
- Have a high level of technical proficiency with some of Hippo’s tech stack, including JavaScript/Node.js, React, and Python.
- Possess strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
