Overall purpose and responsibilities of the role:
The Estimator is responsible for analysing architectural and engineering plans, preparing detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, and subcontractors, developing accurate budgets, assessing supplier and subcontractor quotes to ensure competitive pricing, assisting in tender preparations and bid submissions, identifying potential cost risks while recommending value-engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to align estimates with project goals, communicating financial insights to stakeholders, supporting contract negotiations, staying updated on market trends and construction costs, and maintaining a comprehensive cost database to enhance the accuracy of future estimates, all while contributing to the successful execution of high-end residential and commercial projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects by gathering relevant information, analysing key metrics, and ensuring that cost assessments support profitable business decisions. A strong understanding of costs and benefits is essential to guide financial planning, while effective relationship management with key stakeholders is crucial. The goal of this role is to provide detailed reports that enable the company to make well-informed decisions, enhancing profitability and long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyse requirement documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project scope.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates by assessing materials, labour, and equipment costs.
- Utilise Buildsoft Cubit Estimating System to develop precise and reliable estimates.
- Develop material and labour estimates, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project budgets.
- Manage vendor and contractor bids, verifying competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and key stakeholders.
- Present estimates and reports to management, providing clear insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Monitor and track changes in project scope, adjusting estimates accordingly to maintain financial accuracy.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and project specifications.
- Proficiency in cost estimating software, particularly Buildsoft Cubit.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial projections.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills to liaise effectively with vendors and contractors.
- Ability to work within deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in residential and commercial construction estimating.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience as an Estimator, preferably in building and general construction.
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Buildsoft Cubit Estimating System.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, plans, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of CAD software is a plus.
Soft Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical skills to accurately interpret data and adjust estimates as required.
