In pursuit of this, our Recruiting team’s focus is to build talent-dense, high-impact teams that are aligned with OpenAI’s cultural values and mission. Our vision is to pioneer the future of recruiting and connect brilliant people with the transformative potential of AI.

About the Role

We’re seeking a seasoned and proactive recruiter to lead full-cycle hiring for our Go-To-Market (GTM), G&A, and business functions in Japan. As the first recruiting team member based in Japan, you’ll play a critical role in building exceptional teams across Sales, Marketing, Communications, Legal, and Operations and more. This role reports to our Head of Business & GTM Recruiting, who is based in San Francisco.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business leaders to forecast hiring needs, build pipelines, and drive recruiting processes forward with efficiency and care.

  • Represent OpenAI with professionalism and cultural fluency in Japan’s market, understanding how to localize candidate engagement while maintaining global standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (HR, Compensation, Mobility, Legal) to ensure operational excellence and compliance.

  • Leverage sourcing strategies, market insights, and your network to attract diverse, high-caliber talent.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to hiring managers on interview best practices, leveling, and candidate assessment.

We’re Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has 6+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience, including in-house work with fast-growing companies.

  • Has experience hiring across a mix of Sales, G&A, and business teams; experience in Japan’s talent market is essential.

  • Communicates fluently in both Japanese and English, with strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail-oriented, and brings a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

  • Is energized by building and improving processes and is eager to help shape how we hire in new markets.

  • Experience building recruiting operations or infrastructure in new international markets.

  • Familiarity with ATS tools (e.g., Ashby, Greenhouse) and sourcing platforms (e.g., LinkedIn Recruiter, AmazingHiring).
