Job description

MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

Our Database Experience (DBX) Team

The Database Experience team builds the libraries and tools that developers use day-to-day working with MongoDB. Our mission is to increase developer adoption, satisfaction and retention by providing a reliable, enjoyable interface for developers and other end-users.

Our senior engineers are typically specialists in a particular programming language, but are capable of contributing to projects in other languages as well.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who enjoys designing, writing, and supporting open source libraries for developers and administrators using MongoDB. You will have the opportunity to be surrounded by veteran C/C++ programmers, as you deepen your knowledge of the C/C++ ecosystem, or advance your career as a writer and speaker.

This role will be based remotely in Canada.

In This Role You Will

Develop and maintain these repositories:

  • MongoDB C driver: https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-c-driver
  • MongoDB C++ driver: https://github.com/mongodb/mongo-cxx-driver
  • libmongocrypt: https://github.com/mongodb/libmongocrypt
  • Contribute to an upcoming async C/C++ driver library
  • Contribute to the MongoDB driver specifications: https://github.com/mongodb/specifications

You’re Right For This Role If You

  • Have 5+ years of experience in relevant roles
  • Have experience implementing libraries in C and/or C++
  • Have expertise in a relevant area (C++ language, network programming, async programming)
  • Have made contributions to open source software
  • Communicate well with coworkers and external users
  • Practice test-driven development

Success Measures

  • Within three months, you will contribute code to most of the team projects. You will be able to fix bugs and implement already-planned features
  • Within six months, you will contribute to the roadmap for our products and lead the design and specification of new features. You will have the trust of the team and our internal customers. You will have responded to an externally reported request
  • Within a year, you will have made a significant improvement to a codebase our team owns, and will be taking the lead in designing new features to solve novel customer challenges

To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups, to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ wellbeing and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys. Learn more about what it’s like to work at MongoDB, and help us make an impact on the world!
