Job description

Does working with Data motivate and excite you?

Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses, like your local plumbers, painters, and landscapers, to transform the way service is delivered through technology. With Jobber, they can quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers while providing an easy and professional customer experience. Running a small business today isn’t like it used to be—the way we consume and deliver service is changing rapidly, technology is evolving, and customers expect more. That’s why we put the power and flexibility in their hands to run their businesses how, where, and when they want!

Our culture of transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation has been recognized by Great Place to Work, Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, and more. Jobber has also been named on the Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies list, and Deloitte Canada’s Technology Fast 50™, Enterprise Fast 15, and Technology Fast 500™ lists. With an Executive team that has over thirty years of industry experience of leading the way, we’ve come a long way from our first customer in 2011—but we’ve just scratched the surface of what we want to accomplish for our customers.

We help employees grow professionally; we have many onboarding resources, tutorials, hackathons and buddies to support learning and provide innovation opportunities. We have a range of experience levels on teams, which allows for mentor/mentee opportunities. Leaders at Jobber work with empathy and support employees to build healthy work-life harmony. Bring your dedication and passion to this job to fulfill your goals

The Data Integration team

The “Data Integration” team, as a member of the Data Engineering group, leverages cloud-based services and architectural patterns, such as event-driven architecture and microservices, ensuring our partners and supporting systems have the information they need when they need it. Speed, accuracy, reliability, and operational excellence are paramount for our success.

This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the evolution of our platform, driving forward-thinking solutions that will shape our future success. You will work in an environment that values both technical expertise and leadership, where your contributions will have a significant impact on the team and the broader organization.

Join us, and be a part of this innovative team, strategic in its approach to solving complex, impactful challenges!

The role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and resourceful Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend and data integration focus to lead the development and evolution of our Data Integration Platform. The ideal candidate designs and maintains scalable data pipelines, ensuring seamless data operations with integrity. When developing automated tools and frameworks, they empower other internal teams to leverage that data effectively, enhancing workflow efficiencies and enabling data-driven decision-making. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, they drive business growth by extracting actionable insights from the data and continuously innovating our data infrastructure to support the company’s strategic objectives. This role is crucial in our mission and to meet our lofty future goals.

At Jobber, we never stop growing and learning, and you shouldn’t either. Through continuous 1:1s, dedicated feedback and support from your manager and our Talent Development team, and your sense of curiosity, we hope you develop to another level with your skill set.

As our Software Engineer, you will:

Empower the Team

  • Develop tools, frameworks, and workflows that reduce manual processes, enhance data accessibility, and enable data-driven decision-making.

  • Build robust alerting and monitoring systems to maintain data quality and reliability.

  • Collaborate across functions to support experiments and analyses that drive impactful business decisions.

  • Work closely with software engineering teams, fostering a collaborative environment for data-driven development.

Accelerate Business Growth

  • Work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and product teams to facilitate the extraction of actionable insights.

  • Use tools like Airflow and dbt to streamline ETL/ELT workflows, ensuring seamless data flow and integration.

  • Use services like Fivetran and Hightouch to facilitate the ingress and egress of data

Strategize, Plan, & Innovate

  • Lead initiatives to research and propose emerging technologies, strengthening our data stack with a focus on simplicity, performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Participate in design and code reviews, actively contributing to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the team.

Ensure Data Integrity

  • Take ownership of data quality, establishing best practices to maintain high trust in data across the organization.

As our Software Engineer, your core skills include:

Data Engineering and Infrastructure

  • Experience with ETL pipeline development.

  • Familiarity with data warehousing principles, including dimensional modelling and star schemas.

  • Experience with CI/CD practices and optimizing data flow within high-volume, scalable infrastructures.

Building Scalable Data Platform Solutions

  • Proficiency in designing, developing, and maintaining efficient batch and real-time data pipelines within a cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).

  • Strong skills in SQL, stream processing, Containerization (ECS orchestration) and AWS Lambda to create reliable and scalable data solutions.

  • Expertise in developing scripts, serverless applications, and automated workflows to ensure data integrity and accessibility.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Ability to explain complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • You can work independently, collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to meet data needs and contribute to data-driven decision-making.

  • Ability to understand the business needs, gather detailed requirements from stakeholders, and translate them into technical specs and an execution plan.

It would be great (but not a deal-breaker) if you had:

  • Experience with Reverse ETL into operational tools (such as Salesforce, Hubspot, Zendesk) through APIs or tools such as Census, High Touch, Rudderstack or similar.

  • Experience with Data Catalog tools, AWS S3 & Glue, Apache Iceberg, and FiveTran.

  • Familiarity with Kafka for real-time stream processing and message queuing.

  • Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases and working knowledge of RESTful and GraphQL APIs for seamless data integrations.

And the work environment:

At Jobber, you will choose where you do your most impactful work from! You can work from home across Canada, or in a hybrid setting from one of our offices in Edmonton (HQ) or Toronto.

Compensation:

At Jobber, we also believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $125,800, a midpoint of $147,900, and a maximum salary of $170,100, designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling.

We design our compensation to reflect each new hire’s skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. The higher end of the range is reserved for those who have demonstrated deep expertise and lasting contributions, while offers below the midpoint reflect strong potential with room to develop. This approach ensures that compensation aligns with both an individual’s current capabilities and their opportunity for future growth.

Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. Your professional growth matters to us too! You’ll have access to a dedicated talent development program that includes career coaching and opportunities for career development.

We believe in transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have any questions about our approach, we’re happy to discuss them throughout the hiring process!

What you can expect from Jobber:

  • A total compensation package that includes an extended health benefits package with fully paid premiums for both body and mind, retirement savings plan matching, and stock options.
  • A dedicated Talent Development team and access to coaching, learning, and leadership programs to help you grow your career, reach your goals, and unlock your full potential.
  • Support for all your breaks: from vacation to rest and recharge, your birthday off to celebrate, health days to support your physical and mental health, and parental leave top-ups to support your growing family.
  • A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a $400-billion industry that has no dominant player…yet.
  • To work with a group of people who are humble, supportive, and give a sh*t about our customers.

We believe that diverse teams perform better and that fostering an inclusive work environment is a key part of growing a successful team. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to working with applicants requesting accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.
