The Atria Health and Research Institute is pioneering a precision-based approach to preventive medicine and longevity. We work at the forefront of leading-edge science and technology, and we believe a collaborative approach to modern preventive medicine can extend healthy life for all.

Our Atria Health Institute is a membership-based health care practice delivering personalized, preventive medicine grounded in up-to-the-minute science. The Atria Health Institute is a membership-based preventive health care practice. Our collaborative, team-based practice pairs every member with an internist and a multidisciplinary team of specialists spanning 15+ areas of expertise to deliver medicine grounded in up-to-the-minute science. Our members live all over the country and the world, and we deliver in-person care in New York and South Florida, with Los Angeles and the Bay Area coming in 2026.

The Atria Research and Global Health Institute is our think tank and research center to advance the cause of preventive medicine for all. Through our global network of 100+ distinguished fellows and researchers, we identify and advance preventive solutions that prevent disease and save lives—democratizing our medical expertise for the greater good.

We are on a mission to accelerate a global shift from reactive sick care to proactive, preventive health care. Our goal is to prevent disease and extend healthy life for all by turning leading-edge science into medicine. With our longitudinal research, we aim to prove that personalized prevention reduces chronic disease and extends healthy life, and with our clinical practice, we constantly ask one question: What is biologically possible?

Role Overview

We are seeking a Vice President of Data & AI to lead the strategy, governance, and technical execution of data and artificial intelligence across the organization. This executive role will own the development of Atria’s data platform and AI engineering capabilities, ensuring safe, responsible, and scalable use of data and AI in service of better clinical care, member experience, and operational efficiency.

Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer, the VP Data & AI will oversee a small but growing team of data engineers and analytics professionals. They will bring proven experience building data and AI capabilities from the ground up — including team formation, platform strategy, and execution. While Atria has an existing data platform, it requires strategic redesign and modernization. This leader will be expected to both roll up their sleeves and set the long-term technical direction, creating a scalable foundation for future growth. They will establish Atria’s single source of truth for data, build internal APIs, define AI governance frameworks, and create a world-class AI engineering function. This role requires both deep technical expertise and proven leadership in scaling teams, setting standards, and translating complex technology into measurable business and clinical outcomes. While a senior executive, this leader should also enjoy experimenting hands-on with new tools and frameworks, while staying close to the technical details that drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Data Leadership & Platform Foundations

  • Assess, redesign, and scale Atria’s existing data platform to meet current and future needs as the single source of truth for clinical and operational data.
  • Build the data and AI function from a small core team into a high-performing organization.
  • Establish robust data governance, privacy enforcement, and compliance frameworks at the data layer.
  • Build and scale internal APIs and safe data movement patterns (de-identification, audit trails, encryption, access controls).
  • Oversee the creation and operation of data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, and foundational BI enablement.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and clinical leaders to ensure data quality, reliability, and accessibility.
  • Unlock the power of Atria’s unique healthcare data — including advanced imaging, laboratory results, and novel clinical data streams — to create differentiated AI capabilities.

AI Governance & Safety

  • Define AI guardrails, use-case tiers, and approval criteria for safe deployment in clinical and operational contexts.
  • Build evaluation frameworks with clear thresholds, rollback procedures, and human-in-the-loop requirements.
  • Establish monitoring and incident response processes for AI systems, including drift, bias, and safety checks.
  • Maintain a comprehensive AI/ML model and agent inventory, with versioning, owners, and change control.
  • Partner with compliance, security, and legal teams to ensure adherence to HIPAA, FDA, and emerging healthcare AI regulations.

AI Engineering & Delivery

  • Build and lead a new AI Engineering team responsible for model development, infrastructure, and deployment.
  • Drive the technical roadmap for AI initiatives, balancing cutting-edge research with pragmatic delivery.
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and ethical standards in production AI systems.
  • Collaborate with product leadership to translate workflows and business priorities into AI-enabled solutions.
  • Own the Data & AI platform backlog, delivering platform components via modern engineering practices (flow-based/Kanban).

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Enablement

  • Act as the “front door” for data and AI at Atria, providing clear intake, review, and approval processes.
  • Partner with clinical leaders to co-define safety standards and review AI outcomes regularly.
  • Run enablement programs including office hours, playbooks, and safe sandboxes for testing AI solutions.
  • Support domain product and engineering teams with reviewed prompts, APIs, and reusable data/AI capabilities.
  • Engage stakeholders across clinical, product, operations, and executive leadership to align AI/data initiatives with company strategy.
  • Collaborate with leading researchers and global institutions to advance healthcare innovation and ensure Atria’s data and AI platforms contribute to global scientific progress.

Base Salary: $245,000 - $330,000

Requirements

Hybrid role based in New York City, with 3 days/week in the office (Tuesday–Thursday).

  • Proven experience building data and AI teams from the ground up, ideally in a scaling or startup environment.
  • Deep technical expertise in data architecture, data governance, and modern AI/ML systems.
  • Demonstrated success redesigning or revamping data platforms to meet evolving business needs.
  • Hands-on experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and AI infrastructure at scale.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data standards, privacy rules (HIPAA, PHI handling), and regulated AI development.
  • Track record of delivering AI/ML projects from concept to production with measurable impact.
  • Experience building and scaling technical teams, ideally in both data engineering and AI engineering.
  • Ability to operate effectively in small but growing environments, balancing hands-on contributions with executive leadership.
  • Comfort and excitement working hands-on with code and modern AI/ML tools; enjoys experimenting and prototyping alongside the team.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Ability to set and execute a clear vision for data and AI across a complex organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to explain technical concepts to executive, clinical, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, influence without authority, and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Experience working with product management, clinical leaders, and compliance stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in AI/ML, Data Science, or a related technical discipline strongly preferred.

Preferred, not required:

  • Experience in health tech, biotech, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Background in AI platform engineering, developer tools, or ML infrastructure.
  • Contributions to AI/ML research or open-source communities.
