SALARY RANGE: $83,000 - $93,000

Position Summary
The Center is hiring a Senior Loan Underwriter (Senior Program Manager) to join a team dedicated tohelpingmiddle- and working-class homeowners sustain affordable homeownership throughoutthe Stateof New York. The candidate we are seeking to fill this position will play anintegral role in the manualunderwriting procedure. They will ensure the required loandocuments are in the file and meet loanprogram guidelines. They will also drive compliance with state and federal lending regulations.
In addition to facilitating the mortgage loan underwriting process, the ideal candidate willalso be drivento support the mission of helping homeowners successfully navigate through a broad range of V
homeownership affordability issues, including, but not limited to, foreclosure prevention, scam prevention, coastal recovery, and resiliency.
This is a full-time, exempt position. This is a hybrid role intended for candidates within commuting distance from our office and requires 3 days on-site, in office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Maintain established underwriting department SLAs
● Maintain knowledge of credit underwriting and program guidelines and staycurrent with departmentrequirements
● Demonstrable knowledge of relevant lending laws and regulations includingCFPB rules
● Underwrite to program guidelines including SONYMA, FNMA, and Freddie Mac
● Support the Deputy Director of Mortgage Operations with tracking and reporting end-to-endpipelinemanagement
● Knowledge of RESPA/TRID/REG Z and fair lending compliance requirements
● Approve, decline, or suspend/return residential mortgage loan submissions
● Meet KPI’s as set by management for underwriting units, coordinating with the Senior ProgramAssociate to expedite units, and working closely with the closing Senior Program Manager to expediteclosings
● Assist in correction of title violations on specific files as required
● Enter complete and accurate data in systems to ensure data integrity
● Review credit report for accuracy against borrower’s listed liabilities on URLA,fraud, and credit analysis
● Ensure on purchase transactions, an expedited review is done to meet contractof sale deadlines
● Maintain and prepare pipeline reports for senior management asrequired
● Measure all mortgage loan submissions for underwriting decisions based oncompany quality controlplans and investor/regulatory compliance
● Provide prompt, quality service to homeowners, housing counselors, and other externalpartners in afriendly and professional manner
● Able to coordinate, organize, prioritize and execute multiple responsibilities in afast-paced setting
● Assist with closing, loan intake, and QC checks as needed
● Other duties as required
Skills & Qualifications
● Ability to read, understand, and interpret mortgage loan documents
● Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
● Ability to understand real estate finance and mortgage terminology
● Advanced analytical skills
● Knowledge of mortgage loan closing policies, procedures, and documentation
● Moderate PC skills, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office software
● Passionate about promoting affordable homeownership, thriving and equitable New York neighborhoods
● Able to coordinate, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting
● Familiarity with Byte or comparable Loan Origination Software and Salesforce
Education, Training & Experience
● Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in residential mortgage underwriting
● Training in the areas of mortgage lending and closings
● At least 10 years of experience working as a residential mortgage underwriter orunderwriting managerfor a bank, credit union, or mortgage lender or not-for-profitlending CDFI
