MBSE Lead Engineer

Job description

Description

Our Mission

At constellr, we’re harnessing the power of space to solve one of Earthโ€™s greatest challenges: climate resilience & security in a changing world. Our thermal satellite constellation delivers the most accurate land surface temperature data on the market, equipping commercial players, governments, defence agencies, and global institutions with the thermal intelligence they need to make strategic decisionsโ€“ from national security and infrastructure to agriculture and climate resilience.

As a fast-scaling company with offices in Brussels, Freiburg, Munich, Washington and Toulouse, our multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and strategists is building the future of space-based Earth observation

Your Role

We are seeking a highly motivated MBSE Lead Engineer to join our Mission Operations Segment team. You will spearhead the introduction and implementation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) across our organisation. This strategic role will be central to transforming our current document-centric engineering processes into a model-driven approach, supporting both internal development and externally funded projects (e.g., ESA collaborations).

Key Responsibilities

MBSE Strategy & Implementation

  • Define and lead the MBSE adoption roadmap across the technical teams.

  • Analyse and document current systems engineering practices, tools, and artefacts.

  • Develop requirements for MBSE tooling and methodology, with a focus on SysML v2.

  • Evaluate and select appropriate MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, Capella, etc.) based on company needs, scalability, and integration capabilities.

Model Development

  • Build a high-level system model (Proof of Concept) of the companyโ€™s current satellite and ground segment systems (operations and data processing flows) as well as the CONOPS around it.

  • Ensure the model supports report generation (e.g., Word, Excel) for external communication and compliance.

Process Integration

  • Define processes for integrating MBSE with existing workflows and tools.

  • Ensure compatibility with document-based deliverables required by external stakeholders (e.g., ESA).

Training & Enablement

  • Identify training needs and coordinate with external providers to upskill engineering teams.

  • Develop internal guidelines and best practices for MBSE usage.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with systems engineers, project managers, and software/hardware teams to ensure smooth adoption.

  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to internal teams during the transition.

Location: This position is offered on a hybrid or remote basis in Germany or Belgium. We have offices in Munich, Berlin, Freiburg (Germany), and Brussels (Belgium).

Requirements

About you

Required:

  • Proven experience in applying MBSE in aerospace or complex systems domains.

  • Hands-on experience with SysML (preferably SysML v2) and MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, Capella, Enterprise Architect).

  • Experience in introducing MBSE into an organisation from scratch is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes.

  • Familiarity with ESA standards and documentation practices is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional initiatives.

  • Experience with model-to-document generation workflows.

  • Knowledge of integration between MBSE tools and Excel/Word.

  • Familiarity with ground segment systems and satellite operations.

  • Change management and training development experience.

Why constellr?

  • Be part of an ambitious mission to launch the worldโ€™s first commercial thermal infrared constellation.

  • Flexible work setup with remote and hybrid options.

  • Competitive compensation, including Virtual Share Option Plan (VSOP) for permanent employees.

  • Join a team committed to diversity, inclusion, and scientific excellence.

At constellr, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace. We are an equal-opportunity employer and believe that diversity fuels innovation, creativity, and the ability to tackle complex challenges effectively. We encourage individuals from all walks of life to join us on our mission to reduce global food insecurity.
