Senior Software Engineer Frontend Platform & Developer Experience

Job description

Datadog’s Platform & Developer Experience teams build the foundational tools and systems that support every part of our product. As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you’ll design and maintain shared UI libraries, build pipelines, design systems, and developer tooling that hundreds of engineers rely on daily. You’ll work closely with frontend engineers across the company to understand their day-to-day workflows, identify pain points, and uncover opportunities for new features and improvements. Through this collaboration, your work will improve reliability, performance, and engineering velocity at scale, while helping shape how frontend code is written, tested, and shipped company-wide.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

To give you a quick overview of some of the areas our frontend core teams focus on: our Design Ops team works on our design system, Druids; our Frontend DevX team builds the foundations that all frontend product teams at Datadog rely on; and our Frontend Framework team owns Datadog’s core frontend platform, powering the UI, toolkit, packages, and more.

At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and implement core frontend platform components including shared UI libraries, build systems, and performance tooling
  • Develop and maintain internal developer tools that accelerate engineering workflows and promote consistency
  • Lead architectural decisions for frontend infrastructure with a focus on scalability and developer experience
  • Establish and promote best practices for testing, accessibility, performance, and frontend standards
  • Build CI/CD tooling, local development environments, and automation that support fast and reliable code delivery
  • Mentor engineers and serve as a technical leader for frontend tooling and platform design

Who You Are:

  • You have 6+ years of experience building large-scale frontend systems, ideally in platform or developer experience roles
  • You’re an expert in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React
  • You have deep experience with modern frontend build tools, bundlers (e.g., Rspack, esbuild, Lage), and CI/CD workflows
  • You’ve built internal tools, component libraries, or design systems for large engineering organizations
  • You can lead cross-team initiatives and influence adoption of platform standards
  • You’re focused on reliability, performance, and enabling efficient developer workflows via thoughtful developer experience

Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That’s okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits and Growth:

  • Generous and competitive benefits package
  • New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan
  • Continuous career development and pathing opportunities
  • Employee-focused best in class onboarding
  • Internal mentor and cross-departmental buddy program
  • Friendly and inclusive workplace culture

Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
