About the Role
Descript helps creators and companies tell stories through video. The creative team ensures that our brand lives up to the ethos of our customers. We ship work that’s brave, creative, and a bit uncomfortable, pushing with conviction where human creativity matters.
As the Brand Design Lead, you will evolve the brand as you create for campaigns, web experiences, and events. You’ll move between big picture concepting, building brand systems, and designing with an expert level of craft. Reporting to the Director of Brand & Content, you will be trusted and supported to create daring work that reminds people of the joy of telling stories.
What You’ll Do
- Set a high bar and execute work that exceeds it
- Evolve and extend the Descript brand to show up well in campaigns, web, and events
- Lead concept and design for launches and campaigns, from brief through delivery
- Build a brand system that scales
- Develop brand systems and toolkits that allow the work to scale in expected (and some unexpected) ways
- Enable product, marketing, and sales partners to create on-brand assets without relying on you
- Multiply your creative impact
- Use AI tools and processes to deliver scale without compromising quality
- Direct internal and external creative partners from illustrators to design engineers
- Mentor designers around you and be an ambassador for your craft around the company
What You Bring
- Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years in brand design, in-house or agency
- Portfolio showcasing a range of both strategic thinking and executional craft across web, social, and paid channels
- Strong command of typography, color, and composition
- Evidence of building a brand system that scaled beyond your output
- Experience directing outside creative partners
- Fluency with AI tools to produce and scale work alongside a clear perspective of where not to use them
- Preferred Qualifications
- Brand work within a SaaS company (especially the creative software space)
- Motion, front-end dev, or illustration skills
- Experience creating generative brand tooling
- Comfort with being on camera and sharing your work publicly
Success In This Role
First 12 months:
- Our identity feels evolved because you challenged it, pushed it, and fought for something outside any project brief you were given
- You launched a brand campaign that did numbers in your ex-coworker group chat (hopefully for good, but that’s not guaranteed)
- Sure, the Descript website is more on brand and converts well, but there are also immersive moments you are genuinely proud of pulling off
- You regularly spend time with people around the company you never thought you’d be collaborating with
- You shipped something you weren’t proud of, picked yourself up and learned from it
- There’s some Descript merch around you that you actually want
The base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $185,000. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, location, level, and may vary from the amount above.
