Summary of Role:
The International Tax Senior Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate and timely delivery of U.S. international tax compliance and consulting engagements. This position requires strong technical expertise across a broad range of international tax topics, the ability to manage complex projects independently, and well‑developed supervisory and leadership skills.
As a senior leader within GHJ’s growing International Tax practice, the Senior Manager will oversee sophisticated compliance engagements, lead technical reviews, conduct research, manage staff, interface directly with clients, drive practice development initiatives, and contribute to the Firm’s strategic growth.
This is a highly visible role with significant opportunities for advancement and leadership.
You will be responsible for:
- International Tax Compliance & Technical Review
- Manage, review and approve U.S. international tax filings of any complexity, including: Form 5471, 8865, 8858, FBAR, 1120‑F, 5472, and other related reporting.
- Oversee medium to large-scale international compliance engagements, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete deliverables.
- Supervise and review Streamlined Procedure submissions and related voluntary disclosure programs.
- Maintain advanced technical knowledge of U.S. international tax rules, foreign information reporting, Subpart F, GILTI/NCTI, foreign tax credits, treaty issues, inbound/outbound structuring, and related areas.
- Consulting, Planning & Research
- Lead and review complex international tax research projects and provide clear, practical recommendations.
- Participate actively in client planning meetings and provide strategic international tax guidance.
- Support A&A and Consulting teams on cross-disciplinary projects involving international tax.
- Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients and ensure the delivery of exceptional client service.
- Communicate proactively with clients and internal teams regarding relevant international tax developments and implications.
- Participate in proposal development and present GHJ capabilities to prospective clients.
- Ensure engagement profitability, including billings and collections.
- Leadership, Staff Development & Firm Contribution
- Supervise, mentor and develop international tax staff; provide on‑the‑job training and formal feedback.
- Contribute to recruiting, performance evaluations and training program development.
- Maintain familiarity with the skills and strengths of all team members and assign work appropriately.
- Actively participate in Firm committees, management meetings and practice development initiatives.
- Thought Leadership & Professional Expertise
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging global tax trends, legislative developments and economic factors affecting clients.
- Demonstrate complete knowledge of the Firm’s philosophy and positions on tax matters.
- Help reinforce GHJ’s culture of collaboration, excellence and innovation.
What skills & experience you’ll bring to us:
- 7-10 years of experience performing international tax research, providing technical international tax advice, and preparing/reviewing U.S. international compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field required.
- CPA or Enrolled Agent required; Master of Taxation or J.D. strongly preferred.
- Minimum 40 hours of continuing education annually to maintain and strengthen technical and leadership skills.
- Prior experience managing complex engagements and supervising teams.
- Proficiency with tax preparation, tax research and tax planning software.
- Desire to participate in GHJ’s Mentoring Program.

GHJ complies with all local/state regulations in regards to displaying salary ranges. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, ranges, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications (e.g. JD, technology), for example. At GHJ, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $165,000 - $205,000.
