Job Description

Location: London, Hybrid

As a Senior Software Engineer at Gousto, you’ll have the opportunity to design and deliver complex, high-impact technical solutions that power products used by millions of customers. You’ll work with real ownership and autonomy, leading the delivery of large features end to end while shaping solutions that are scalable, reliable, and aligned with our architectural standards.

You’ll also play a visible leadership role within your team - mentoring other engineers, raising the bar through thoughtful code reviews, and championing best practices across engineering. Working closely with product managers and stakeholders, you’ll help shape technical direction and influence how we build, not just what we build, driving meaningful improvements in both our technology and our ways of working.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Lead technical design discussions and guide teams through architectural trade-offs
  • Provide comprehensive code reviews and technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers
  • Take ownership of production incidents, leading resolution and driving preventive improvements
  • Drive improvements in testing practices, monitoring, and overall system reliability
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure effective integration of solutions and management of dependencies
  • Balance delivery of new features with proactive management of technical debt
  • Promote and guide adoption of engineering best practices including XP, TDD, and DevOps
  • Partner with product managers to provide technical insight into feature planning and prioritisation

Who You Are

  • Highly skilled in modern programming languages, frameworks, and development practices
  • Confident designing software architectures and making sound technical decisions
  • Experienced in mentoring junior and mid-level engineers through feedback, pairing, and code reviews
  • Comfortable leading the delivery of large features or complex technical initiatives
  • Knowledgeable in system performance, scalability, and security considerations
  • A strong problem-solver, able to debug and resolve complex production issues
  • Proactive in improving team processes, technical standards, and ways of working
  • An effective communicator, able to influence technical decisions and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Able to balance quality, speed, and long-term maintainability in delivery
  • Motivated by Gousto’s mission and excited to make a meaningful impact at scale
