About the Opportunity

The School of Information and Communication Technology at Griffith University is a leading school for education and research in computer science and information technologies. It offers innovative programs across areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, computer networking, and intelligent systems. With a strong emphasis on industry engagement and real-world applications, the School prepares graduates with the practical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to play a key role in the ARC Linkage project Ontology Generation with Large Language Models for Regulatory Processes. In this position, you will design and develop novel algorithms for automated ontology and knowledge graph construction, implement and fine‑tune advanced systems, and work closely with PhD students to evaluate and validate project outcomes.

The role may also include contributing to the teaching activities within the School of ICT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct theoretical and experimental research in knowledge engineering and machine learning systems.
  • Build a strong publication record in high impact international journals and conferences, and actively pursue competitive research funding.
  • Support research activities, including data collection, storage, preliminary analysis, and the preparation of reports and scholarly articles in line with research protocols.
  • Undertake literature reviews, contribute to system design, and perform routine scientific testing.
  • Coordinate meetings and engagement activities with researchers and external partners as required.
  • Lead the preparation of publications, presentations, and research outputs arising from the project.
  • Provide mentoring and supervision to higher degree research students.
  • Contribute to teaching as needed, fostering an excellent learning experience and supporting high quality, student centred teaching activities.

About you

  • The occupant of this position will hold a PhD or equivalent qualifications in the area of Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Mathematics.
  • Research experience in ontology, knowledge graph and/or machine learning methods.
  • Demonstrated publication record in high quality peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences in artificial intelligence, knowledge representation & reasoning, or machine learning along with capability to write research reports.

Candidates must have full unrestricted Australian work rights and may be subject to a National criminal history check.

What we can offer

This is a full time, two year fixed term opportunity based at Brisbane South (Nathan).  As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

Salary – Research Fellow Grade 1 – Base range is $88,689.84 - $103,888.71 + 17% super. Full package range is $103,767.11 - $121,549.79.
