Senior Mobile Developer (Android)
Join Sony Sports Technology as a Senior Mobile Developer (Android)
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mobile Developer (Android) to join our Tracking team, supporting the development of an in-house mobile application used in live sports tracking and testing environments.
This role is focused on Android development using Kotlin, working closely with camera pipelines, real-time video capture, and on-device machine learning. The application is currently used in Cricket, with scope to expand into other sports.
You’ll be part of a team building technology that operates in real-world, high-performance environments, with occasional hands-on testing at live sports venues.
Location: Hybrid working – minimum 2 days per week in the office
Office locations: Basingstoke, London, or Bristol
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £59,990 – £81,800 per annum (depending on experience and level)
What You’ll Be Working On
You’ll be contributing to a production in-house Android application used internally by Sony Sports Technology’s tracking and development teams.
Key areas include:
Enhancing and modernising an existing Android application
Improving performance, stability, and user experience
Working directly with mobile camera pipelines using the Android Camera 2 API
Integrating and running machine learning models on-device to support:
Ball tracking
Player tracking
Optimising threading models, lifecycle management, and performance for real-time workloads Supporting hands-on testing in live sports environments, including occasional on-site testing. Collaborating closely with Tracking and Computer Vision teams to ensure clean system integration
Key Responsibilities
Lead best practices for Android mobile development
Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Kotlin-based Android applications
Own complex features from design through to delivery
Work closely with developers across Tracking, Tooling, and Computer Vision
Support testing, debugging, and deployment of new features
Participate in technical discussions and code reviews
Contribute pragmatically in an agile, sprint-based environment
Tech Stack and Experience Requirements (Senior Level)
Essential
Strong, hands-on experience in Android development using Kotlin
Deep understanding of Android application architecture, lifecycle, and threading
Proven experience working with the Camera 2 API in production
Experience building high-performance, real-time mobile applications
Solid understanding of software design principles and clean code practices
Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
Highly Desirable
Experience running or integrating machine learning models on mobile devices
Understanding of on-device performance optimisation for video or ML workloads
Experience with mobile video capture or processing pipelines
