Job Description
We are currently seeking a new colleague to join our Algorithmic Trading and Research unit to develop trading strategies for flexible assets and optimise their value across electricity wholesale and ancillary services markets. In this role, you will help design, implement, and scale trading and dispatch strategies for a diverse flexibility portfolio. This includes stand-alone large-scale assets such as wind parks, solar plants, and utility-scale battery systems, as well as aggregated distributed flexibility from rooftop PV, home battery systems (BESS), heat pumps, and EV chargers. Your work will directly support portfolio imbalance management, ancillary services bidding, and short-term market optimisation, ensuring that flexibility is monetised efficiently across multiple markets.

You will contribute to the following:
- Designing and developing trading and optimisation strategies for flexible assets across intraday, balancing, and ancillary services markets
- Translating asset characteristics (ramp rates, state of charge, availability, response times) into market-ready bidding and dispatch logic
- Optimising the allocation of flexibility between multiple competing markets
- Supporting portfolio imbalance management by developing strategies that leverage both centralized assets and large-scale aggregated residential flexibility
- Building and maintaining systematic backtesting frameworks to evaluate trading strategies under different market conditions
- Contributing to the automation and scaling of trading decisions within algorithmic and semi-automated trading setups
Qualifications
- University degree (Data Science, Statistics, Computer science, Mathematics, Physics, Econometrics or a closely related field)
- Practical experience with Python, SQL, Git, Apache Airflow
- Some familliarity with energy trading, market design, and flexibility markets
- Practical experience with linear optimisation techniques
- Solid understanding of risk management, portfolio optimisation, and constraint-based decision-making
- Proactiveness, responsibility, collaboratives and attentiveness to details
- Eagerness to learn energy market specifics
- Great communication skills in English (writing and speaking)
Would be an advantage:
- Experience with intraday power markets, balancing markets, or ancillary services
- Experience with virtual power plant technology
- Experience with linear / mixed-integer optimisation, stochastic optimisation
- Familiarity with battery optimisation, hybrid asset operation, or flexibility aggregation
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks for reserve and balancing products
