About GiveDirectly

We’re a non-profit founded in 2008 that sends direct, unconditional cash to people in extreme poverty. We partner with governments, foundations, and individual donors, using technology to identify recipients, process electronic payments, and track transfers from start to finish. Our goal is to speed up the end of extreme poverty worldwide.

Since 2009, we’ve delivered over $1 billion in cash to more than 2 million people globally. Over 150,000 donors have contributed, and more than 80% of donations go directly to recipients after our operating costs.

We currently work in the DRC, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, and the United States. We’ve also reached people in the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Jamaica, Morocco, Nigeria, Philippines, Togo, Turkey, and Yemen. Our programs include long-term poverty relief in Africa and the U.S., as well as emergency cash for those affected by international crises or climate disasters.

Recipients often use the cash for food, education, healthcare, farm equipment, livestock, home repairs, or to start businesses. Studies show that these transfers can raise incomes, reduce malnutrition, and boost local economies.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to accelerate the end of extreme poverty globally. We’re guided by efficiency, transparency, and respect.

“Recipients First” is a core value for us, meaning we prioritize what recipients want over what donors or we might prefer. We’re also committed to “Rethinking Aid,” working to make unconditional cash transfers the standard in global aid. Our “Impact-Driven” approach means we focus on effective solutions with lean processes. We value a “Global Team” that brings diverse perspectives.

Team & Culture

We have over 800 team members working across 30 countries. Our culture emphasizes evidence-based impact, innovation, and empowering people to make their own choices to overcome poverty. We give employees autonomy to take ownership of their work and make a real difference.

Our central support roles are remote-first, offering flexible work setups where you can manage your schedule. Most roles suggest at least three hours of overlap with East Africa Time (EAT) for team collaboration. We’re dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible work environment.

Our internal surveys show that 90% of our team feels a strong sense of belonging, 80% have opportunities for professional growth, and 83% feel our core values guide their daily decisions. Our team includes people from diverse backgrounds in the private sector, non-profits, government, technology, and education.

Benefits & Perks

We offer fair and transparent pay, benchmarked competitively, with a no-negotiation policy that includes a competitive salary and potential bonus.

Our benefits include flexible paid time off, comprehensive healthcare, paid parental leave, and statutory retirement benefits. We support flexible work arrangements, with many remote-friendly roles. Eligible positions receive a home office setup and desk allowance.

We provide an annual budget for learning and development, covering courses and conferences, and offer secondment opportunities to work with different teams.
