The Role

We are recruiting for an Engineering Specialist to support the Position, Navigation & Timing (PNT) Programme within a major UK defence organisation.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will act as a subject matter expert, delivering PNT projects for the Cyber & Space Operating Centre (CSOC) and providing guidance on PNT best practice across the defence landscape.

This is a technical role focusing on Electronic Systems and Sensors (ESS). You will be responsible for managing requirements, overseeing design, and scrutinising verification evidence for critical navigation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements Management: Manage the generation of ESS (Electronic Systems & Sensors) requirements, defining technical deliverables and updating documentation for sub-systems.
  • Design Oversight: Manage the design of sub-systems, components, or processes to meet customer requirements within constraints of time, cost, and performance.
  • Verification & Validation: Participate in and scrutinise the system’s test, verification, validation, and evaluation processes.
  • Technical Assurance: Verify and recommend the use of technical data to support the maturity of engineering documentation, ensuring successful technical outcomes.
  • Risk Management: Act upon identified risks (safety, environment, support, financial) and apply principles of risk escalation and transfer.
  • Support & Maintenance: Consider in-service support and associated costs during the design and requirements phase.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Qualifications: A Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) qualification at RQF Level 4 (e.g., HNC/HND) or higher.

  • Technical Background: Proven experience in the delivery of Electronic Systems, Sensors, or Mechatronic Engineering outcomes.

  • Professional Registration: Professionally registered as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), Registered Science Technician (RSciTech), or similar (ICTTech/RITTech).

    • Note: If you do not hold professional registration, you must hold a minimum RQF Level 6 (Bachelor’s Degree) in a STEM discipline.
  • Risk & Safety: Experience managing technical risk and understanding safety/environmental implications in engineering.

Desirable:

  • PNT Knowledge: Specific experience providing technical advice relating to Position, Navigation & Timing technologies and/or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
  • Delivery: Experience working in a fast-paced delivery environment.

The Offer

  • Rate: Up to £415/day (Inside IR35).
  • Location: Bristol (Abbey Wood) with significant home working (approx. 1 day/week onsite).
  • Contract: Initial engagement until 31st March 2026.
