The team

  • The Research team plays a key role in Shift’s strategy, developing AI technologies used by insurers and their clients worldwide. We design, evaluate, and industrialize cutting-edge AI systems, with a strong focus on Generative AI and agentic architectures.
  • We tackle complex real-world insurance challenges such as fraud detection, liability analysis, subrogation package generation, and decision support across highly heterogeneous and unstructured data including documents, free text, images, and structured claim data.
  • Our ambition is to build reliable, production-grade AI systems capable of reasoning, orchestrating tools, and operating at scale within critical business workflows.
  • As an Artificial Intelligence Researcher, you will join the squad dedicated to developing claim handling agents. These AI systems automate repetitive tasks, increase operational efficiency, simplify the daily work of claim handlers, and ultimately enhance the experience of the insured.

Your role

  • Stay at the forefront of Generative AI and Agentic AI, including LLMs, multimodal models, and tool-augmented agents.
  • Design, prototype, and rigorously evaluate autonomous AI agents tailored to end-to-end insurance workflows.
  • Translate business problems into robust agentic systems, including task decomposition, context and prompt design, tool integration, memory strategies, and advanced evaluation methodologies.
  • Take ownership of AI systems from problem formulation and benchmarking to production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to internal frameworks, benchmarks, and shared tooling to accelerate experimentation and industrialization of agentic workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data teams to ensure scalability and measurable business impact.

You’ve got what it takes if

  • You hold a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • You have 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying AI systems, with strong exposure to Generative AI and LLM-based architectures.
  • You have practical experience with prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, tool-augmented agents, and systematic evaluation of AI systems.
  • You are proficient in Python and modern AI frameworks, and comfortable building production-ready systems.
  • You are autonomous, rigorous, and motivated by solving complex, high-impact real-world problems.
  • You are business fluent in English. We are an international company with offices in many countries and 50+ nationalities, the Shift working language is English.
  • Fluency in French is a significant advantage.

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying AI agents in production environments.
  • Experience with multimodal models or AI-based document understanding.
  • Proficiency in C#.
  • Experience in the insurance industry.
