About Superpedestrian
We are a transportation robotics company based in Cambridge, MA, founded out of MIT in 2013. We develop technologies for micro-electric vehicles, optimizing for safety, reliability, and performance. Our work spans consumer services, focusing on lightweight electric vehicles, online platforms, micromobility, scooters, scooter-sharing, e-scooters, and e-bikes. We have a team of 51-200 employees.
We spent four years developing our Vehicle Intelligence System (VIS). This system first appeared in the Copenhagen Wheel, a consumer product. Since 2018, we have concentrated on designing and testing an electric scooter for shared fleets, which we launched in 2020 as LINK.
Our LINK fleet scooter includes the VIS platform. This platform uses embedded computers and cloud software to detect and prevent over 100 common malfunctions, protecting the scooters from damage during and between rides. It can identify problems like battery fires, short circuits, or failed brakes within nanoseconds and take corrective action. VIS stops over 50% of issues that would typically cause other scooters to fail and helps streamline operations when problems do arise. If a scooter cannot protect itself, it automatically becomes unavailable for rental and creates a detailed service ticket for repair. This technology improves vehicle safety for riders and saves money for fleet operators.
