Job Description

The Lead Engineer is accountable for providing technical leadership and direction to the delivery team (the “Pod”) in the development and support of Group, Investment, and Retirement products hosted on the Acurity platform. This role also actively contributes to hands-on development and support activities.

The Lead Engineer plays a key role in establishing and promoting development standards and best practices, while collaborating effectively with team members across the delivery landscape. They enable the Pod to translate business requirements into high‑quality, well‑designed technical solutions and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the wider technology team.

In this role you will:

  • Provide input and thought leadership into the systems technology roadmap for the platform as well as the quality standards and processes for the platform. Contribute to the long-term sustainability and future-proofing of the investments platform technology suite.
  • Identify and articulate business and technical risks and issues. Take action to resolve issues, mitigate risks, minimise run costs and minimise technical debt.
  • Configure and code changes and interfaces for the Acurity systems, and train others to be able to do the same.
  • Perform design-, code- and test-reviews and embed built-in quality practices to ensure products delivered by the Pod meet appropriate quality standards throughout development. Also ensure that products are reliable, usable, efficient, effective and, where required, highly available and scalable.
  • Assist the Development Manager and the Pod in breaking down user stories, sizing and estimating tasks, removing impediments, mitigating risks and, where required, facilitating agile ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective rituals).

Qualifications

  • IT or a related field qualification
  • 10+years as a software developer
  • 5+ years development with Acurity
  • In-depth industry knowledge of Superannuation, Investment and Retirement
  • products
  • Agile environment experience
  • Iteration Management experience

Desireable:

  • Acurity Services and Azure Service Integration
  • Life insurance experience
  • Experience working with Atlassian Jira and Confluence
  • Automation testing experience
