Job Description

The Data Governance Specialist plays a vital role in strengthening the quality, consistency, and stewardship of data across TAL’s Claims function.

This role is responsible for shaping and maintaining strong data governance practices — ensuring our data is well‑managed, compliant, and supports confident decision‑making.

In this role you will:

  • Assess risks associated with Claims data—spanning privacy, security and operational risks—and design effective controls that support TAL’s broader data risk management strategies.

  • Develop and deliver data governance training using enterprise materials, ensure timely completion, and promote a strong culture of data stewardship across Claims.

  • Lead the full lifecycle of Claims CDEs—identifying, documenting, prioritising, and reviewing them with stakeholders to keep them accurate and aligned to business needs.

  • Maintain comprehensive end‑to‑end lineage documentation for Claims data, detailing its origin, flows, and transformations across systems.

  • Monitor the use of Claims data across analytics and reporting to ensure it is applied appropriately and in full compliance with internal policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards

  • Set and monitor Claims data quality metrics and manage data issues and incidents end‑to‑end, driving remediation and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Management, Business, IT, or a related field.

  • Over 5 years’ experience working with large‑scale data management, with knowledge of life insurance claims operations and regulatory requirements desirable.

  • Proficient in Excel with the ability to work confidently with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

  • Demonstrates clear, adaptable communication and strong stakeholder collaboration, ensuring complex information is easily understood.

  • Experienced with data governance frameworks and best practices, including the use of data lineage and metadata management tools.

  • Detail‑oriented and accuracy‑focused, with a proactive, strategic approach to problem‑solving and strong adaptability in fast‑paced environments.
